Senator requests paternity leave; deadbeat dads well ahead of him

Father’s Day came early in the Senate.

Senators were yesterday debating an amendment to the Maternity Protection bill, which sought to increase leave from 13 to 14 weeks. But Independent Rolph Balgobin decided to put in a plug for daddies and the “crisis of fatherhood” and got support from MSJ boss David Abdullah and PNM Senator Shamfa Cudjoe who, blissfully unaware of the acronym “TMI”, explained how she got weak in the knees at the sight of a single father.

Wired868 believes that addressing the issue of absentee fathers by giving paternity leave is like fighting war for peace.

Might the State help families more by refusing to renew passports, ID cards and driver’s licenses unless child support payments are up-to-date?
