SSFL 26: Fatima fall out of title race after Moka draw, “Naps” thump Mucurapo

The chase for the 2026 Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Sportt Premiership Division title is a three-horse race now.

Fatima College dropped two points in Moka today against second-from-bottom Trinity College, in a 2-2 draw that saw the former outfit fall seven points behind leaders St Mary’s College.

In truth, Fatima were lucky to leave Moka with even the solitary point. With just three minutes on the clock, Trinity led 2-0—after goals from youngsters Israel Wickham and Kevez Quintero.

However, in the 88th minute, defender Daquan Jackman halved Fatima’s deficit, with his second goal of the season. And it was a familiar figure that got Fatima’s equaliser, one minute into second half stoppage time.

Jahaem “Yellows” Bailey registered his 20th goal of the season in Moka, which leaves him just two shy of the record Premiership tally of 22—scored by former Presentation College (San Fernando) forward Isaiah Jacob in 2025.

Like Jacob, Bailey looks unlikely to add the coveted Premiership crown to his scoring honours though.

Fatima travel to Tobago to face Signal Hill Secondary on Tuesday. And even a win at the Signal Hill fortress probably will not be enough to revive their title hopes.

For Trinity, the consequences are arguably more dire. For the third straight home match, the “Moka Lions” allowed damaging late goals.

Hosting Arima North Secondary on 17 October, they conceded twice from set pieces in the last four minutes of the game to lose 5-3—after leading 3-0 at halftime.

And Kaydon Fox’s equaliser for Malick Secondary, in a 4-4 tie at Moka on Saturday 24 October, came in the fourth minute of second half stoppage time.

Jackman and Bailey are just the latest visiting players to benefit from Trinity’s late generosity.

The Moka Lions are 14th, with the bottom four sides on the 17-team standings bound for demotion. Had they seen out their last three home matches better, Trinity would be 11th now and five points above the relegation zone.

Naparima College had no such complications against another relegation-threatened outfit, as they thumped Mucurapo West Secondary 6-0 in Mucurapo, with a double from attacker Immanual Wright and one from forward Adasa Richardson.

The result helped “Naps” climb above Signal Hill on goal difference with both teams on 31 points, just two behind St Mary’s College.

Naparima are within touching distance of defending their Premiership trophy. But, with away fixtures against Presentation and St Benedict’s College looming, St Mary’s look to have the more manageable outstanding matches on paper.

St Mary’s (first, 33 points): Trinity Moka (away), Signal Hill (home), St Augustine Secondary (home);

Naparima College (second, 31 points): Presentation (away), St Benedict’s College (away), St Anthony’s College (home);

Signal Hill (third, 31 points): Fatima (home), St Mary’s (away), Trinity College East (away).

At the other end of the standings, Queen’s Royal College and San Juan North hover above the drop zone—and Trinity Moka showed they are capable of troubling teams higher up the standings today, while they have doable fixtures ahead.

It will be a nervy fortnight for QRC and St Anthony’s then.

Queen’s Royal College (12th, 12 points): St Anthony’s College (away), Hillview (away), Arima North (away);

San Juan North (13th, 10 points): Speyside (home), Fatima (away), St Mary’s College;

Trinity Moka (14th, nine points): St Mary’s (home), Trinity East (away), Mucurapo West (away);

St Augustine Secondary (15th, eight points): Arima North (away), Speyside Secondary (away), Fatima (home);

Mucurapo West (16th, eight points): St Benedict’s (away), bye, Trinity Moka (home);

Trinity East (17th, five points): bye, Trinity Moka (home), Signal Hill (home).

We are at the business end of the Premiership season now.
