Kudos to City but don’t forget local sporting triumphs

Charity rarely starts at home where the local sports media is concerned.

The Trinidad Express, inspired by Manchester City’s last gasp England Premier League weekend triumph, rattled off 11 other “stunning” sport climaxes. None involved local or Caribbean representatives.

Wired868 wonders if anyone remembers Kelvin Jack’s stoppage time save in Bahrain that booked a historic 2006 World Cup spot? Or Kerry Jamerson’s tremendous 88th minute blast in a 2-1 win over Guatemala to keep 1990 W/Cup dreams alive?

There is the late Mickey Trotman’s golden goal against Costa Rica in 2000 that secured T&T’s first CONCACAF Gold Cup semi-final berth…

And we haven’t gotten to Donovan Bailey’s late drive past Frankie Fredericks and our Ato Boldon in the 1996 Olympics. Or West Indies’ tied cricket test match against Australia in 1960 or late capitulation to Australia in the 1996 Cricket World Cup.

Has Wired868 put City’s triumph at home to a 10-man relegation threatened QPR team into context yet? You’re welcome.
