Pro League round-up: Central snap three game winless streak after “Drogba” double

Central FC snapped a three game winless streak this afternoon, as they came from behind to defeat Morvant Caledonia United 3-1 in Pro League action at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva.

Morvant Caledonia are yet to win this season but were first on the score sheet today, as Renaldo Francois got the opening goal in the fourth minute. It was the third time in as many matches that the “Eastern Stallions” drew first blood.

And, as with every other occasion, they could not hold on. Central veteran Kaydion “Drogba” Gabriel—who was a striker at youth level but played virtually all his senior football at right back—was an unlikely source of an equaliser for the “Couva Sharks” in the 23rd minute.

And lightening struck twice, as Gabriel put Central ahead late in the first half before captain Duane Muckette got an insurance goal for the Sharks in the 73rd minute.

The result pushed Central back to fifth in the 10 team standings—one point ahead of St Ann’s Rangers but eight shy of leaders W Connection, after five matches.

Morvant Caledonia, who have two games in hand, are second from bottom with just goal difference separating them from table proppers and defending champions, North East Stars.
