Double bronze medallist Lalonde Gordon might still be sporting his medals and discussing London 2012 but he is probably some distance from the Olympic ideals these days.
Tobago House of Assembly (THA) chief secretary Orville London paid tribute to the sister isle’s first Olympic medallist with gifts at a civic reception on Monday night. But the guest of honour was not there.
Gordon was on the island but under the management of Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar. And, although one could drive from one end of Tobago to the other in less than two hours, the PM did not release him to be celebrated by his island’s most influential body.
The PM has been distributing coffee mugs with her image to the Olympians’ fans, which might confuse citizens that cannot remember what Olympic event she competed in.
Judging by Persad-Bissessar’s firm and unyielding grip on the Olympians, Wired868 assumes that the PM would not have been much good at relays. The THA chief secretary is still waiting to receive the baton.
