Hattricks for Caesar and ‘Lobo’ as Club Sando and Deportivo PF tally big wins

Trinidad and Tobago international forwards Trevin Caesar and Marcus ‘Lobo’ Joseph helped themselves to a treble each as the Ascension Invitational Tournament completed its second day of action yesterday.

Caesar, who spent his last five years abroad and represented SC Gjilani in Kosovo last season, marked his return to the local domestic scene with a hattrick at the Matura Recreation Ground, as Pro League outfit, Club Sando, routed Super League club, Matura Re-United, 6-0 in Division One.

Keron Cornwall, Akinola Gregory and Neon Lammy got the other goals for Sando, as Matura failed to emulate east coast rivals and TTSL colleague Guaya United’s 2-1 win over top flight team, Police FC, on Friday evening.

Morvant Caledonia United made it two wins from three meetings for Pro League clubs against lower league opposition, as they held off Prison Services 4-2 at the YTC ground in Arouca.

The ‘Eastern Stallions’ conceded home advantage to ‘Prisons’ after failing to secure a ground for the contest but they looked comfortable enough in Arouca, as they stormed to a three goal lead by halftime thanks to a double by Renaldo Francois and a solitary item by Shem Clauzel.

Prisons did stir in the second half as Akeem Biddy-Bailey and Ricardo Alleyne got on the score summary but another Caledonia goal by Johnny Brito made the mountain too high for the TTSL club to scale.

In the Ascension Invitational’s second tier, Deportivo PF—an ‘all-star’ team from Point Fortin—bared their teeth with a 7-0 mauling of Harlem Strikers at the Mahaica Oval.

Joseph, who missed out of a 2019 Concacaf Gold Cup place due to visa issues, helped himself to a first half hattrick while Kevin Moodie managed a double and Hughtun Hector and Andrei Pacheco chipped in with a goal apiece.

At the UTT O’Meara Campus, the home team fought back from a 2-1 deficit to win 4-2 after three goals in the the last seven minutes of the game by Dillon Bartholomew, Kishun Seecharan and Theon James.

And first half goals by Donavon Derrick and Jamal Burke were enough for Police’s second team to win 2-1 over Petit Valley/Diego Martin United at the Police Academy in St James.

Action continues this afternoon with a Division One clash between TTSL team, Cunupia FC, and Pro League titans, Defence Force FC, being the pick of the match ups from 3.30pm at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar.
