Subway to Glory: Dayal wants SBC, “Naps” one-two finish—either way!

“[…] Both Naps and SBC finally getting all their players on the field after a lengthy MOE delay, means a boost in confidence during the games for both teams of south players. A strong striker and solid goalkeeper makes a huge difference on how the rest of the team performs.

“No loud and cocky player interviews necessary, always humble, no razzle dazzle just genuine rhythm. These teams will just continue to put in the hard work, let what they do on the field speak to their abilities, and battle it out for the top SSFL spots…”

Who do you think will win the 2026 SSFL Sportt Premiership title?

Our first Subway to Glory winner, Tisha-Marie Dayal, cops the first of 20 prizes—a $100 Subway voucher—although her heart is torn between two schools: St Benedict’s College and Naparima College:

I’m not usually optimistic for no reason, but a true supporter isn’t only there for the wins but also when things start off a little sticky—and SBC’s La Romaine Lions started the season with a few issues finding the back of that net.

SBC players and supporters are passionate, to a fault sometimes, and there is still plenty football to be played.

There are a lot of opportunities for this team, that still doesn’t have the big sponsors or even the best training facilities—but year after year they fight. The school spirit is real not rehearsed.

“Naps” played with their U-16 keeper and without their most experienced player, having to rotate others into that spot. Yet they’ve still been a force on the field while introducing their younger boys to the fans.

Also, noteworthy, while south referees aren’t perfect, they are usually consistent, to the benefit or detriment of both teams in a game. Wins for SBC and Naps are all player earned.

As a Naps girl, with nephews playing for Naps this year, and the parent of a diehard SBC past student-athlete, I’d love a one-two finish, either way!
