Two penalties from stopper Shakiyl ‘Pampers’ Phillip and another item from his central defensive partner Malik Mieres paced San Juan Jabloteh to a 4-1 rout of Morvant Caledonia United in Pro League action last night at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva.

The result pushed Jabloteh up two places to fifth in the 11-team standings and they now trail fourth placed Morvant Caledonia by three points, although the latter team has a game in hand.

Jabloteh’s triumph snapped a two-game losing streak in which the ‘San Juan Kings’ scored once and conceded eight times from a combination of Tiger Tanks Club Sando and Central FC.

Assistant coach Marvin Gordon put the result down to tactical discipline and a few stand-out contributions.

“[Last night] we were a little more disciplined in terms of shape and organisation than the last two games,” Gordon told Wired868. “Some key players had some good games too. Micah Lansiquot was brilliant tonight for us and [Delon] Jagassar was brilliant while he was on the field.

“[Brandon] Semper was brilliant as well and Renaldo Francois was also really good. But the main thing was the attitude of the boys in keeping shape and remembering their roles and function, unlike the last two games.”

Mieres, who left Caledonia last November, opened the scoring with a finish from off a corner kick after just three minutes. And although the ‘Eastern Stallions’ levelled through Jaydon Taylor, Jabloteh regain their advantage through midfielder Delon Jagassar before Phillip added gloss to the score summary with two second half penalties.

The defeat leaves Morvant Caledonia on a three game win-less streak since their 2-1 win over leaders Defence Force on 25 January. Their results since then are draws against AC Port of Spain (0-0) and Police FC (2-2) respectively before they failed to even secure a point last night.

The Stallions trail Defence Force by eight points and the Army/Coast Guard combination have a game in hand.
