Azaad Khan passes away; ex-SSFL and Jabloteh administrator was beloved administrator

Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) general secretary Azaad Khan passed away this morning. Khan, 71, had been ailing for some time and could not perform his duties during the 2025 season, due to poor health.

A former Malick Secondary teacher, Khan was manager during the school’s heyday in the late 1980s and early 1990s—where he worked alongside successful coaches Keith Look Loy and Ken Franco.

Khan passed away on 3 February 2026.

From there, Khan ascended to administrative duties with San Juan Jabloteh, where he was part of the team that usurped Defence Force, Joe Public and W Connection to make Jabloteh the dominant team in not just Trinidad and Tobago, but the Caribbean as well.

Khan also served as Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) acting general secretary under late president David John Williams.

His most sustained impact, arguably, came at the SSFL level, though, where he served for decades and was the first point of contact for dozens of school teachers, managers and coaches.

Then San Juan Jabloteh CEO Azaad Khan (right) and midfielder Dale Saunders promote an upcoming tour of Newcastle United.

Khan’s affable nature, humility and approachability made him one of Trinidad and Tobago’s most beloved football administrators.

He will be missed by all football stakeholders.

Editor’s Note: The funeral for Mr Azaad Mohammed-Khan will take place from 4pm on Tuesday 3 February at Nure Islam Masjid, El Socorro, San Juan.
