Can 2026 give birth to a new goalscoring record in the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Premiership Division?
Fatima College captain Jahaem “Yellows” Bailey leads the pack at present with 14 goals—just two coming from the penalty spot. The record target is Isaiah “Baby Hulk” Jacob’s 22 items for Presentation College (San Fernando) last season.

For context, the 2025 Premiership season consisted of 15 games—the SSFL executive committee had not yet so compromised the integrity of the competition that absolving a team, Malick Secondary, from relegation seemed a sensible solution.
Bailey has one more game than Jacob to do his business in then. “Pres Lions” supporters might also point out that Jacob sat out of one fixture in 2025, in an exercise in load management.
A physically imposing, workmanlike midfielder prior, Jacob scored seven times in the 2024 season. Bailey, fast and tricky, got nine goals in 2025 as a winger. Jacob was 19 in 2025; Bailey is 18 now.
Both then benefit too from experience, as they maximise their gifts to exploit opposing defences.

(Naparima College forward Adasa Richardson is an outlier at 16-years-old, as he is second on the scoring chart with 11 goals at the moment. But then, with one national senior appearance already and Caribbean Club Championship experience for Prisons FC, he is not your average rookie either.)
At his current goal to game ratio, Bailey would tie Jacob’s record tally by the end of the league season.
It is worth considering, though, that five of Fatima’s six remaining games are against: Mucurapo West Secondary, Speyside Secondary, Trinity College, San Juan North Secondary and St Augustine Secondary. All are among the Premier Division’s top seven leaky defences in 2026.
So, advantage to Baily; and don’t be surprised by a Fatima surge through the latter part of the season—the Mucurapo Road school are unbeaten in their last seven games, but with three draws.

On an aside, it is not since Naparima College attacker Isaiah Lee topped the charts with 13 items in 2016, that the Premiership’s top scorer also came from the title winners.
(St Benedict’s College attacker Derrel ‘Zoom Zoom’ Garcia might have changed that, but for a ruling on his ineligibility for part of the season that ultimately cost the ‘La Romain Lions’ the crown.)
But the likes of Trinity College’s Kesean St Rose (2018), St Anthony’s College’s Kai Phillip (2019), San Juan North Secondary’s Larry Noel (2022), Malick Secondary’s Oba Samuel (2023) and, finally, Jacob (2025) could not fire their respective teams to the Premiership title.
Might that also change in 2026?
