Trinidad and Tobago Men’s National Senior Team head coach Dwight Yorke named 22-year-old United States-born forward Roald Mitchell in his 26-man team today, as the Soca Warriors prepare for decisive World Cup qualifiers in Port of Spain against Jamaica (13 November) and Bermuda (18 November) respectively.
Last week, Yorke promised a new overseas-born recruit to help the Soca Warriors’ World Cup campaign. He delivered Mitchell, who was born in New Jersey to Trinidad and Tobago parents.

At present, Mitchell has two caps and no goals with the New York Red Bulls, who he signed professional terms with in 2024. He has played frequently for Red Bulls II in the MLS Next Pro, though, where he has been prolific this season.
However, Yorke can point to having reasonable success with US academy players with defender Kobi Henry while winger Kaïlé Auvray always plays in MLS Next Pro.
Mitchell replaces Lincoln City forward Justin Obikwu in the Soca Warriors squad. He was selected ahead of the likes of Reon Moore, who is playing professionally in Vietnam at present, and Justin Araujo-Wilson, who is at SK Hanácká Slavia Kroměříž in the Czech second division.
There were three other changes in Yorke’s team to face Jamaica. San Juan Jabloteh attacker Lindell Sween replaced Central FC attacker Isaiah Lee, while Defence Force full back Isaiah Garcia, Central FC playmaker Daniel “Fingers” David and AC Port of Spain goalkeeper Marvin Phillip are in for Crystal Palace’s Rio Cardines, AS Trencin’s Molik Khan and Defence Force’s Jabari St Hillaire respectively.

Trimmingham is a weak link. His first step is too slow (reaction time), and expects support instead of reacting immediately. He needs to exploit his weight advantage.
His strategy seems to be to bring in players playing in big leagues outside Trinidad but are they here long enough and do they have the football know how to carry out his tactical plan effectively ? Also he has to fit together the different football persona each individual player has so I still ask “ is there time”? This method of putting together a team may work at the Premiership and similar Leagus level because of the quality and experience of the players and coaches .
