Trimmingham scores at both ends as T&T and Jamaica draw friendly 1-1

Trinidad and Tobago closed their two match Jamaica tour with a 1-1 draw tonight, although coach Dwight Yorke is likely to feel his team deserved more in a tense encounter at the Anthony Spaulding Sports Complex in Kingston.

Twenty-eight-year-old Trinidad and Tobago defender Josiah Trimmingham, in particular, would have mixed feelings about the outing, after scoring on both ends of the pitch.

Trimmingham, who plays professionally for Montego Bay United in Jamaica, put the visitors ahead in the 28th minute after heading home a swerving corner kick from attacker Nathaniel James.

James, who is a Mount Pleasant Football Academy employee, and Trimmingham were among three Jamaica-based players in coach Dwight Yorke’s starting line-up tonight. The third was Montego Boy left back Darnell Hospedales.

Having lost their first Jamaica clash 1-0 on Thursday, Yorke looked to be on course for his first win as national coach—as substitutes Kevin Molino and Steffen Yeates took over from Joevin Jones in lording over the midfield area.

The Soca Warriors were not always threatening. But, on a poor playing surface, they looked technically superior and more composed on the ball than opposing coach Steve McClaren’s troops, who hailed largely from the Jamaica Premier League.

In the third minute of stoppage time, Jamaica managed a period of sustained pressure. And Trimmingham, facing his own goal, tried to clear a downward header from Jamaica’s Damario Phillips but succeeded only in hooking the ball past substitute Trinidad and Tobago goalkeeper Jabari St Hillaire.

Yorke’s next game will be his first competitive international match as head coach, as Trinidad and Tobago face Cuba in a home and away 2025 Concacaf Gold Cup playoff in March.
