TTFA election: Edwards, Murray, Downer and Rigues head “Team Progressive” slate

Eastern Football Association (EFATT) president Kieron Edwards yesterday became the first candidate for the 2024 Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) presidential election to name his full slate.

Edwards, a director at TTPFL team Terminix La Horquetta Rangers, is challenging the post of president at the Saturday 13 April election. Today is the deadline for candidates to confirm their nine-member slates.

Eastern Football Association (EFATT) president Kieron Edwards intends to run for the post of TTFA president.

By release yesterday, Edwards confirmed that his slate comprises: first vice-president Colin Murray, second vice-president Osmond Downer, third vice-president Jameson Rigues, and ordinary members Ryan Nunes, Alicia Austin, Allan Logan, Inspector Andrew Boodhoo and Shelton Williams.

Murray is a director at TTPFL Tier Two club, QPCC FC, and a former Trinidad and Tobago Super League (TTSL) vice-president, while Downer is president of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Referees Association (TTFRA) and Rigues is director of TTPFL Tier Two outfit, Guaya United, and the current TTSL president.

For the ordinary members, who are no longer mandated to have football experience, Williams is vice-president of TTPFL Tier 1 club 1976 FC Phoenix, Nunes is managing director of TTPFL Tier 1 outfit AC Port of Spain, Logan is a Northern Football Association board member, Austin is a qualified accountant, and Boodhoo is chair of the football section of the Police Sports Club.

“Team Progressive, under the leadership of Kieron Edwards, stands before the Trinidad and Tobago football community with an unwavering commitment to lead the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA),” stated the release.

“Our executive slate represents a paradigm shift, placing emphasis on transparency, good governance, financial prudence, and a membership-first approach.

“[…] Representing almost every demographic of our diverse country, the members of Team Progressive are the perfect mix of people who have the skill, the background, the experience and the years of dedicated service to others in the football fraternity, that will see our football experience a resurgence in excellence.”

Wired868 understands the new constitutional stipulation that candidates must have a nine-member slate to run for president has been a stumbling block for interested parties, who are struggling to get the support.

Yesterday, Veteran Footballers Foundation of Trinidad and Tobago (VFFOTT) president Selby Browne formally withdrew from the race. Browne said he invited Edwards and prospective candidate Denis Latiff to a meeting on Sunday, during which he advised that there should be a united slate for the election.

Subsequently, Browne confirmed his own withdrawal from contention. Latiff also told Wired868 that he will no longer pursue the post of the TTFA position.

It leaves Colin Wharfe, the current TTPFL CEO and an employee of the Fifa-appointed Normalisation Committee, as Edwards’ only likely opponent.

Wharfe is yet to reveal his nine-member slate.
