Ex-Presentation College star denies role in Sapphire’s attempted murder

A former Trinidad and Tobago National Under-17 team captain intends to clear his name after being informally identified as a person of interest in the shooting of 21-year-old Sapphire David.

According to the police report, a gunman shot David on the right side of her chest in La Brea on Saturday 30 December 2023 and left her for dead. The young woman underwent emergency surgery that same day and is in critical condition.

A Crime Watch report initially stated that the shooter was the father of David’s child while a police source claimed an eyewitness allegedly identified the 25-year-old Presentation College (San Fernando) alumni as the assailant.

The source claimed the player, contacted the La Brea station and offered to be interviewed to “clear his name”.

The ex-“Pres Lions” standout denied any involvement in the shooting and told Wired868 that he does not have a child with David, although he knows her.

“I was at my store all day with my mother and sister at the exact time of the shooting,” he said. “I have multiple customers to corroborate this [and] I have video footage showing I was in Couva near the time.”

Sapphire David, 21, was shot in the chest on 30 December 2023 and is still believed to be in critical condition.

The TTPS confirmed that the footballer has not been interviewed regarding the shooting of Sapphire David. This, according to a police source, is because David is not yet able to give an official statement to the police.

At present, David is in critical condition.
