The following is a letter sent from the email address of then Central FC operations director and current advisor to the Sport Minister, Kevin Harrison, which requests a personal payment for himself and then Central chairman and current Minister of Sport, Brent Sancho, for a player transfer:

Re: whistleblowing legislation. Who are you going to blow the whistle to in reality, not the same people who you are alleging to be corrupt in the first place? Therein lies the rub. Moreover don’t forget the burden of proof still is ‘he who alleges must prove’. Sorry to say not everyone is JW and walks around taping things so if you happen to be an innocent bystander who is aware of crimes-white collar or otherwise-to who’s attention do you bring it-your supervisor? The police? If we take lifesport as an example, just look at the level of players involved, how the system of checks and balances were ignored and what should be the procesd to get things done and tell me who were people supposed to go to. Everyone has ideas but the implementation is the rub. My question is how effective would whistleblower legislation be if our other systems of checks and balances fail us. And note I do support it.
There is absolutely no problems transferring money from Europe to Trinidad! None! So wanting a transfer via Western Union is a strong indication of underhand dealings. My guess is it’s because there is less of a paper trail involved.

The only proper thing to do if you are both employees of a company that is selling a player is that you pass on the full figure to the selling company that pays your salaries. And then you have them pay you a bonus if they chose to.
It is unusual that you would try to collect a bonus before your company is paid. And especially so when you do not direct the purchasing party to send the money to your company’s bank account.
There is, at best, a total lack of transparency there that is unmissable to anyone who cares to look.
Shari John, it is illegal to operate as agent for both parties as in player and club. And they did have the chance to respond. Both chose not to.
That usually means they prefer to speak to someone they feel they have a better shot at bamboozling if you asked me.

Allan; it’s the foremost issue that’s plaguing the development of our sporting disciplines. If only we could get a few quality administrators willing to sacrifice to see our athletes achieve their potential T&T could surpass Jamaica…….that’s my opinion.
Hear nuh! I remember years ago one of our athletic administrators “punished” one of our female athletes AT A PAN AM GAMES or CARIFTA GAMES by confiscating her running shoes thus preventing her from competing at the games. Begs the question was it he who paid for her travelling and accommodtion at the games village.
I think you have to wait to hear the details of the arrangement. It could also be a situation where he acted as an agent on behalf of the club. If he has the personal contact for instance and thus negotiates for the player/club then why not have a personal payment? Maybe it is solely due to his involvement that the arrngement was even possible.
“Self-dealing” is against the coporate governance code, it is a breach of the employee’s fiduciary duty to involve himself in any business for the company which also pays him on the side… unless explicitly authorized by his employer. If Harrison was negotiating on behalf of the club it would have been in his capacity as “Operations Director,” for which he’s already paid. He would not need a separate “personal payment” for that. Not only that, but the language of the request implies that only the personal payment (broken out into two separate 50% payments… rather than three tranches for the transfer fee) should be paid via Western Union. Why circumvent the banks on the personal payments? Do European banks not have issue with wiring transfer payments as well?
There are many many more right thinking people than corrupt people I have to believe. But people choose to keep quiet cause it may mean losing their job or worse. …….
Exactly, I cannot in good conscience put someone in a position where they might lose their livelihood. We need legal protection for them.
I have my ways Denisha Mayers 🙂 Good shout on whistleblower legislation btw Janine. Many people have not only lost their jobs leaking information to the media in the last five years… Some have even been sued by the State for breaching confidentiality.
Confidentiality clauses are not supposed to help companies conceal crimes.
If the PP stays, it is hard to see things not getting worse in terms of action against whistleblowers.

Yes. Sometimes I think life is so disappointing. But as a past national swimmer, I have had first hand experience with ” bad” sporting administrators. Everyone is in it for themselves. They may not start out that way but eventually it just seems they think what the hell. And if they get away with it the first time well…… Was so backing Sancho in his fight against Jack. Now this….. Did/ do not want to believe this story.

Those games would have had to be arranged with the TTFA anyways.

This is a crime to mix personal and business banking interests. Now we seeing kick-backs for players transfers. Has he transformed into a super agent now? This is/was the Minister of Sport, and everything normal. And he wanted to prosecute Jack Warner. Seems as if he was an astute student of the FIFA business model!
