D/Force edges Stars; Caledonia fights off Point Fortin

Defence Force and Caledonia AIA enjoyed winning starts to their 2014/15 Digicel Pro League campaigns yesterday afternoon with hard-fought victories over North East Stars and Point Fortin Civic respectively.

An extra time Richard Roy penalty settled an otherwise barren affair at the Larry Gomes Stadium in Malabar as Defence Force managed a last gasp triumph over North East Stars. And, at the Mahaica Oval, Caledonia fought back despite host team Point Fortin striking first through Akeem Redhead in the 48th minute.

Civic barely held its advantage for two minutes before Caledonia equalised through Guyanese midfielder Pernell Schultz and, in the 58th minute, Trinidad and Tobago 2012 Caribbean Cup attacker Keyon Edwards settled the affair for the “Eastern Stallions.”

Defending champions DIRECTV W Connection enjoyed a bye for the first round and looked on as Couva rival, Central FC, set the pace with a 7-0 dismantling of St Ann’s Rangers at the Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya on Friday evening.

In the second match of a Macoya double header, Police FC and San Juan Jabloteh played to a goalless draw.

  1. We need quality referees in the pro league man it is time to put an elite team in place, pay them well so that they perform well. It is difficult to clubs when poor decisions are made, it affects all, there is no recourse for any actions even if replay’s show the wrong decision was made. We heading into 2015 and you want to tell me no communication equipment for referees? go to radio shack man my children have their own short wave sets for small money!!!! this will ensure they can ask each other questions before that harmful decision is made. Sometimes the assistant had a better view. All we make are excuses why things are not done pointing fingers who is to blame why this that or the other is the way it is, the time has come to take action i am for head sets i will contribute $500.00 dollars to the referees assigned to the pro league for the purchase, i challenge you all to put something in the pot lets stop talking and effect change through action. I have now done something about it you should know my next step!!
