NLCL 24: Made In La Brea, Caledonia AIA enter playoff for ¼ final spot

Made In La Brea and Caledonia AIA will clash in a playoff at the Mahaica Sporting Complex in Point Fortin from 5.45pm on Thursday 15 February to determine the final quarterfinal team in the 2023-24 NLCL U19 Community Cup tournament.

Both teams finished fourth in their respective groups on Carnival Sunday, to retain the chance of advancing to the knockout stages. Admission for their meeting is $25 while children under-12 are free.

In Group A, Caledonia AIA only needed against Blast FC to be out of reach of fifth placed Malabar Young Stars. The “Eastern Stallions” did much better than that as they trounced Blast FC 7-2, with a hattrick from attacker Keiron Hinds.

Malabar did not get close anyway, as they fell 5-1 to third placed Athletic International Academy (AIA) at the Larry Gomes Stadium.

Meanwhile, in Group B, Made In La Brea had a chance of snatching an automatic berth to the quarterfinals when they faced Central Soccer World. A win for the La Brea team would have seen them leapfrog Central to third.

However, a double by Jelani Stoute helped Central romp to a 5-1 triumph and confine Made In La Brea to a playoff.

In Tobago, Group C champs Ball Blasters Youth Academy ended their group assignments with a 2-1 triumph over Eagles for their fourth straight win. Eagles struck first through Jarion Dennis but Blasters would not be denied, as they recovered with second half items by Imanhi Forbes and Mario Pereira.

QPCC – City FC won Group A with a 6-0 stroll past Cantaro United, thanks to doubles by Steven Griffith and Luke Correia, while Point Fortin Youth FA finished top of Group B with a default win over Moruga FC who defaulted their final outing.
