Fixin’ T&T demands fresh T&T general elections

FIXIN’ T&T reiterates its call for the Kamla Persad-Bissessar led People’s Partnership government to immediately seek a fresh mandate from the citizens of Trinidad & Tobago.  We welcome the resignation of Mr. Jack Warner from the Cabinet and our Parliament.

Mrs. Persad-Bissessar however must not now be allowed to have conveniently rid herself and her administration of Mr. Warner in the interest of political expediency; she should have taken action based on principle a long time ago. Even the T&T Chamber and AMCHAM have finally conceded that Mr. Warner’s departure was long overdue.

By Mrs Persad-Bissessar’s blanket defence and protection of Mr. Warner over the past two plus years in spite of numerous allegations, international scrutiny and assertions by the Court of Arbitration for Sports (CAS) among other things, the Prime Minister was irresponsible, reckless and derelict in her duty to the citizens of Trinidad & Tobago.

The issue of the former Minister of National Security was however only one of many that has resulted in the People’s Partnership loss of legitimacy and moral authority to govern. Others include:

  • The Reshmi Ramnarine debacle
  • The ill conceived SoE and the arrests, detention and charging of citizens without a shred of evidence
  • The Section 34 fiasco
  • The Flying Squad rebirth
  • The ongoing attacks on our media and other independent pillars of our democracy
  • The consistent attempts by public officials to intimidate citizens insistent on exercising their constitutional rights
  • The blatant disregard for our Constitution

WE THE PEOPLE must accept nothing less than an immediate return to general elections.  We must appreciate however that while this administration has lost its legitimacy, those presenting themselves as alternatives have much to account for and many questions to answer.

WE THE PEOPLE must, this time around, dictate the direction in which we take our beloved T&T.

WE THE PEOPLE must create the narrative for the campaign trail, carefully scrutinize and interview our prospective employees, select, elect and then hold them to account.
