SSFL 25: Five Rivers, ‘P-ville’ join Girls Big Five line-up, Tobago still open

Five Rivers Secondary and Pleasantville Secondary will join St Joseph’s Convent (Port of Spain) in the 2025 Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Girls Championship Big Five competition, after emphatic wins in their respective zones yesterday evening.

Five Rivers only needed a draw yesterday, in a top of the table clash with second placed Bishop Anstey High School East, to secure the East Zone title with two games to spare. Instead, they used the opportunity to make another show of force, as they routed BAHSE 10-0.

Pleasantville Secondary did not mess about either, as they mauled Moruga Secondary 15-0 to virtually assure themselves of a Big Five finish.

Technically, St Joseph’s Convent (San Fernando), who beat St Stephen’s College 3-1 yesterday, can still win the South Zone. However, for that to happen, Convent would need to defeat Moruga Secondary 54-0 in their next match, while also needing ‘P-ville’ to lose to both St Stephen’s and Moruga.

Let’s just say that such results are highly improbable at this stage.

The competition is still alive in Tobago though, although Signal Hill Secondary are favourites.

Scarborough Secondary reclaimed first position yesterday with a 3-2 win away to Bishop’s High, which put them one point clear of Signal Hill. However, the latter school, who are the defending champions, have two games in hand.

There are four rounds remaining in the Tobago Girls Championship, along with Signal Hill’s two postponed games.

Scarborough will be poised to pounce on any error from the champs. But, thus far, Signal Hill have not given a hint that a slip is likely—as they have six wins from as many games with 49 goals scored and two conceded.

There were no games in the Central Zone yesterday, where leaders Chaguanas South Secondary hold a three point lead over second placed Holy Faith Convent (Couva).
