Theobald names T&T Boys U-14 team; Tobago’s Ball Blasters and City FC claim nine picks

Trinidad and Tobago Boys National Under-14 coach Densill Theobald selected a 20-member squad today which will represent the two-island republic at the CFU U-14 Boys Series from 15 to 25 August.

The Boys competition, like the Concacaf Girls Under-15 Championship League B, will be staged in Trinidad and Tobago.

Theobald’s outfit will be captained by Naparima College and Cox Football Academy forward Adasa Richardson, who also represented the Trinidad and Tobago National Under-16 team in a tour of Jamaica this April.

Fatima College and City FC forward Reagan Rowe was announced as the team vice-captain.

Trinidad and Tobago will play exclusively at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet. Their opening fixture is against Aruba from 6.30pm on 17 August while they then tackle Saint Kitts and Nevis and Jamaica on 18 and 19 August respectively.

The knockout stage of the bracket features games on 20, 23 and 25 August—all in Bacolet.

There was one withdrawal from the competition with Martinique no longer involved. Unlike with the Concacaf Girls competition, there was no arrangement for Trinidad and Tobago to field a reserve team this time.

Theobald, who represented Trinidad and Tobago at the Germany 2006 World Cup team and is a former Soca Warriors captain, commended his players who made it this far.

“It’s been inspiring to see their growth and how they’ve come together as a team,” he told the TTFA Media. “It is a process and it brought back a lot of memories for me as a youth player. It’s not an easy road but the guys have shown love and dedication towards the efforts.

“[…] The boys are eager to give their all, and I have every confidence that they will make the nation proud. This is just the beginning for these young players, and we’re excited to see what they can achieve.”

Ball Blasters Youth Academy, the Tobago-based club that won the 2024 Republic Bank National Youth Football League (RBNYFL) Under-14 competition, had the most picks on Theobald’s 20-member squad with five players.

Midfielders Ackim Duncan and Jaden Marcelle, attackers Jaeden Anthony and Jahmiah Gibbes and attack-minded full back Kyen Anderson all represent the team from the Sister Isle.

Duncan, Marcelle, Gibbes and Anderson are all Signal Hill Secondary students while Anthony attends Bishop’s High School.

City FC, who were beaten finalists in the RBNYFL U-14 tournament, have four picks on the national team with: goalkeeper Christian Telfer, defender Lucas Shaw, flanker Jeremai Nanton and Rowe.

Theobald credited the support of the parents and the various communities across the nation that helped get the boys ready for this phase.

“The dedication from our coaching staff, the backing of the TTFA, and the encouragement from the community have all played vital roles in getting us to this point,” he said. “As we approach the tournament, the excitement within the squad is obvious. We’re ready to take the field and represent Trinidad and Tobago with pride and passion.”
