TTFA confirm electoral candidates; green light for Teams Edwards and Wharfe

The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) has confirmed its list of candidates for the Saturday 13 April Extraordinary Congress, which will see a new president and executive committee elected.

All 18 persons who chose to run for office—led by presidential candidates Kieron Edwards and Colin Wharfe—were cleared to do so, based on the vetting process by the Electoral Committee.

The Fifa-appointed Normalisation Committee, headed by Robert Hadad, is the de facto electoral committee for the upcoming elections. However, based on a recommendation from the TTFA Membership, Fifa agreed to allow an independent body to oversee the process—in accordance with the TTFA constitution.

The appointed independent persons are: Dr Terrence Farrell, economist and former deputy governor of the Central Bank, Elton Prescott SC, attorney and former independent senator, and Dr Justin Koo, senior lecturer and deputy dean at UWI.

Voting will be done by slates for the first time, as a result of a controversial recent amendment to the TTFA constitution.

As such, members will register their votes, via secret ballot, for either Slate Edwards or Slate Wharfe.

The respective slates are:

Team Edwards: Kieron Edwards, first vice-president Colin Murray, second vice-president Osmond Downer, third vice-president Jameson Rigues, and ordinary members Alicia Austin, Inspector Andrew Boodhoo, Allan Logan, Ryan Nunes, and Shelton Williams.

Team Wharfe: Colin Wharfe, first vice-president Colonel Keston Charles, second vice-president Renee John-Williams, third vice-president Huey Cadette, and ordinary members Riaz Ali, Lee Davis, Colm De Freitas, Makan Hislop, and Richard Mason.

  1. All the best to the candidates, hope they put the development of football first and eliminate greed and corruption! While on corruption, Have to say, no one connected with ones in the past whom were suspected or linked to corrupt practices should have been on either team!
