Tiger Tanks Club Sando’s Caribbean adventure ends in Saint Kitts and Nevis this weekend, as a 2-1 semifinal defeat to Golden Lion FC means they will not advance to the Concacaf Caribbean Cup.
Tomorrow night, Golden Lion of Martinique and Suriname’s Robinhood will contest the 2023 Concacaf Caribbean Club Shield from 7pm in Basseterre. Both teams also advance to the Caribbean Cup where they will try to force their way through to the 2024 Concacaf Champions Cup.

Trinidad and Tobago Premier Football League (TTPFL) champions Defence Force and runners-up AC Port of Spain are already through to the Caribbean Cup—by virtue of their domestic league placing.
But Sando’s defeat yesterday was a warning sign for the local league, which just completed its first season in three years.
Coach Cornell Glen’s troops romped through the group stage with 16 unanswered goals from three games. But Lion, who managed 15 goals with one conceded from their two group matches, looked far more likely to give the Trinidad club a challenge—and so it proved.
Curiously, despite both teams’ free-scoring group stage form, all of yesterday’s semifinal items came from set pieces.
Lion defender Marvin Bellance put the French islanders ahead in the 12th minute, with a flicked header off a dead ball that looped over Sando goalkeeper Miles Goodman.

Goodman, a late replacement for injured first-choice custodian Denzil Smith, had even less chance with Lion’s second, which was a brilliant free kick from 35-year-old journeyman forward Kevin Parsemain, who has an impressive 35 goals from 57 internationals for Martinique.
Sando pulled a goal back with a cracking Alvin Jones free kick from distance in first half stoppage time. And the Soca Warriors right back nearly managed a second from the same route, only to crash his effort off the underside of the bar.
But, in the end, Sando lost their composure with Naparima College defender Josiah Cooper and captain Josiah Trimmingham both picking up second yellow cards—as the TTPFL outfit finished with nine players on the field.

Sando can end on a positive note tomorrow when they face Metropolitan FC from 4pm in the third-place playoff at the SKNFA Technical Centre. But they will leave Saint Kitts without the prize they wanted.
