SSFL round-up: Presentation stumble in Moka; Naparima pummel St Benedict’s

Presentation College (San Fernando) attacker James Alex Lee Yaw scored a dramatic 90th minute item in Moka this evening for his fifth goal in his last three successive matches. But it was only enough for a solitary point for the “Presentation Lions” as they drew 1-1 with relegation threatened Trinity College (Moka) in SSFL Premier Division action this evening.

Jevon Ward opened the scoring for the North Zone team in the 17th minute and Presentation did not draw level until the final minute of regulation time.

It was a costly stumble for Presentation who failed to catch leaders Shiva Boys Hindu College on the latter team’s day off. Shiva Boys have 25 points from 10 outings while second placed Pres have 23 points from 11 matches.

Naparima College were not messing about today though, as they whipped St Benedict’s College 5-0 at Lewis Street in San Fernando to leapfrog Presentation to second place. Isaiah Lee led the way for Naps with a hattrick while Renaldo Francois chipped in with a double against the table proppers.

St Benedict’s, cut adrift at the bottom of the Premier Division, will be relegated by next Wednesday unless they can pick up points this weekend against St Mary’s College or against St Anthony’s College in midweek. Both games will be played away from home.

And Benedict’s fans won’t feel encouraged by the form of the two northern schools who managed important wins today.

Striker Trey La Motta and midfielder Daniel Conocchiari were both on target in Tobago as the “Saints” pulled off a 2-1 win in Tobago to stretch their impressive unbeaten streak to seven matches.

St Mary’s have 19 points from 11 games, which is the same point tally as fourth placed St Anthony’s although the latter team played a game less.

The “Westmoorings Tigers” rebounded from a 3-1 loss away to Shiva Boys on the weekend, as they slammed four goals past Pleasantville Secondary with Trinidad and Tobago National Under-17 midfielder Tyrese Bailey leading the way with a double.

Pleasantville have nine points and are in 13th place in the 15-team table with the bottom three schools due to be relegated.

Above them, Queen’s Royal College and Trinity both pulled away ever so slightly today. Trinity’s draw with Presentation gave them a two-point advantage over Pleasantville and kept them in 11th place while QRC are 12th after a goalless draw against 10th place East Mucurapo Secondary.

Only goal difference separates from eighth to 11th place, which are occupied by San Juan North Secondary, Signal Hill, East Mucurapo and Trinity respectively.

San Juan endured their third successive outing without a win today, as they fell 1-0 to a resurgent St Augustine Secondary. Anthony Samuel scored his third goal on the trot for the “Green Machine”, who are making a habit of grinding out results.

Three of St Augustine’s four wins this season have been with a 1-0 scoreline.

Today’s other affair saw Fyzabad Secondary spank Fatima College 4-0 to climb to seventh place and leave Fatima second from bottom with eight points.

Skipper Sharkeel Louison scored a hattrick for the “Fyzo Tigers” while forward Alleric Williams chipped in with the other item while Fatima got their lone goal by lanky frontman Justin Araujo-Wilson.

  2. Too late for Isaiah to get on this U-20 team, Carlos Lee, but I will be keeping an eye on him for the future. 😉

  3. Shouldn’t it read Naps on 23 points?

  4. Nice battle at the top and bottom (besides Benedicts) shaping up
