Warriors quarterfinal free on CNMG; TTFA, Sport Ministry both take credit

Trinidad and Tobago’s 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup quarterfinal clash with Panama will be aired live from 4.30 pm today on State-owned CNMG’s CTV station on channel 6.

In keeping with the current bonhomie between Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) president Raymond Tim Kee and Sport Minister Brent Sancho, the TTFA and the Ministry of Sport both sought to take credit for it.

The football body was first on the draw with a release on Friday June 27.

“The TTFA successfully brokered a deal between free to air station, CNMG, and CONCACAF,” stated a release, “to have the remaining Gold Cup matches broadcast live in Trinidad and Tobago…”

Tim Kee further said: “We are extremely pleased to play a role in facilitating this arrangement between our regional governing body and CNMG.

“Football will bring this country together and the TTFA will continue to make efforts for the people of Trinidad and Tobago to watch our national teams in action.”

Sancho indicated, before the Gold Cup kicked off, that the Sport Ministry was attempting to purchase the rights to view the competition. But he had been unsuccessful.

“The Ministry of Sport cannot apply,” Sancho told Wired868. “The (relevant) TV station has to apply for the broadcast rights and then they have to approach sponsors (to sell advertising space) for it…

“My ministry cannot pay outright… I would have definitely have put money towards it.”

A day after the TTFA’s release, the Sport Ministry revealed that it was they who footed the bill and, like the football body, did not acknowledge any contribution from the other side.

“The Ministry of Sport, in partnership with state-owned CNMG, will sponsor the exclusive local broadcast of the remaining CONCACAF Gold Cup matches,” stated the Ministry of Sport release. “The Ministry has contributed $100,000 to the effort, which has captured national attention after the dominant performances from the men’s senior national team at the tournament.”

Whoever got the job done—and it is possible that both parties contributed to the cause—it will make for a comfortable Sunday evening for Warriors fans as the quarterfinal fixture was previously unavailable, even on cable television.

The TTFA also announced that it will host a viewing party with its partner, Trotters Restaurant, on Maraval Road, Port of Spain. TTFA paraphernalia, including the new Joma playing kit and supporters shirts, will also be on sale.

The Warriors have only been to the Gold Cup quarterfinals twice before while their sole appearance in the semifinal round was 15 years ago at the 2000 tournament.

Captain Kenwyne Jones said they are confident of success today.

“The mood in the camp is one of high spirits,” Jones told the TTFA Media. “Everyone is very relaxed but also very concentrated for this match. Yes I think it’s the biggest match of the tournament for us because of it being the next match.

“The last performance boosted us in a different type of way. In the first match we started differently to how we usually start and that yielded some results.

“We qualified quite early and the character and grit we showed to come back and the also the way we played… gives us a different perspective on the attributes of the team and that in itself gave us a bag of confidence going into this game. But we will remain focused on keeping this momentum going.”

  1. Is the CNMG broadcast from a low bandwidth internet feed?

  2. Jesus. These tv commentators sending me to sleep. Can’t they be any more animated? The feed is already of poor quality

  3. Now you see why i vex Rose-Marie Ingrid Lemessy-Forde CNMG showing Pan. Steups! Bound to mess up the ting.

  4. Well watch d cricket and stay tuned to Wired868 for regilar updates

  5. Lol Rose-Marie Ingrid Lemessy-Forde. I have a lil short fuse dey.

  6. Haa…I purchased a rabbit ears the other day….getting channel 12 pretty good…..which is CNC 3….but everything else is shit

  7. Hello all you bandwagonist who now jump on the ting i made it my business to find out what TV channel was carrying the matches. FSP2 and $29.00 to book it for the month less than the price of a box of frigging KFC so doh try shitting on me. Between the TTFA and The Min of Sport ah doh know who more blight. Steups!

  8. Excellent Sunday : cricket & football..

  9. I could see the MOS doing this ..the TTFA no credit!

  10. Kevin if you read all the threads running about this you would see that we all agree TTFA is not worth talking about. Also please advise the good minister to not get caught up in the pappyshowing eh, it looks cheap and not genuine

  11. Natasha Nunez Not sure if you’re serious but…that’s not the point

  12. This football have more politics than Monday night forum

  13. Now this is when I get nervous. We always do well until politicians get involved. Our politicians really blight. I hope is only the TTFA.

  14. To me the TTFA and Tim Kee are hardly worth mentioning.

  15. Two points: the Minister did say that he couldn’t pay the required US$40,000 but he would look to find additional sponsors. So said so done. Secondly, maybe there will be a big reception at Piarco but the Minister actually went to the airport to wish them well when they left. So he was supporting them before most of The bandwagonists climbed on board! But it’s worth asking TTFA if they contributed any of their US$71,000 towards the broadcast costs!

  16. Vernal the TTFA has f**ked up on so many levels eh…it’s on a platter now for Sanko to blast them

  17. We go be up 2-0 sat half because ah missing the first half lol

  18. It was obvious to me the moment I saw the government only bought the rights to a match now that the team is doing well.

The government is looking to use the team’s success and popularity as part of it’s election campaign!

  19. Put up an antenna Job…or try streaming CTV

  20. Lasana Liburd you guys need to take a step back and look at the entire picture.

The Soca Warriors are in the knockout stage with an excellent chance of moving on to the finals. This is an election year, they are being prepped for their victory/welcome home/UNC motorcade on the day of their return………which will be made a national holiday for maximum effect!

All yuh thought Kyshaun’s return was something?
All yuh eh see pappyshow yet!

  21. Well, Sancho said earlier that the Sport Ministry was not able to put the money out. So I’m guessing the good results since suitably “inspired” them. Lol

  22. Now that sounds different…and Sanko having a dig @ Tim Kee. But to give jack his jacket…he did say that they would attempt to bring the matches…maybe it took some time to negotiate?

  23. That was essentially Sancho saying: “We spent this TTFA; What did you spend?”

  24. Oops… My error Savitri Maharaj. The second release was from Ministry of Sport!
    I adjusted it.
This is what it should have said:
A day after the TTFA’s release, the Sport Ministry revealed that it was they who footed the bill and, like the football body, did not acknowledge any contribution from the other side.

“The Ministry of Sport, in partnership with state-owned CNMG, will sponsor the exclusive local broadcast of the remaining CONCACAF Gold Cup matches,” stated the Ministry of Sport release. “The Ministry has contributed $100,000 to the effort, which has captured national attention after the dominant performances from the men’s senior national team at the tournament.”

  25. Exactly Lasana but he know how to put out press release. He said how much the MoS contributed but failed to mention his organisation….steups!

  26. The TTFA only knows how to spend other people’s money. And even then, they want you to hand it over and stay out of their damn business. Lol

  27. All of the above is true! But if you know how I cant stand to hear Tim Kee open his mouth…left up to the TTFA we would be scrambling for streaming like we did during the week

  28. cyah please trinidadians nah. doh bring it, they vex. bring it, they vex. geez…

  29. They waited for the 99th hour
    sigh..

  30. Yeah. We would have been in serious problems Debbie Espinal! 🙂

  31. Tim Kee and Sancho both exhibited little interest in having our Warriors games broadcast at home until they advanced to the knockout stage.

    Classic bandwagoning!

  32. Like I said…I don’t have local TV….

  33. Debbie Espinal, the game today is on fox sports 1 which flow do not broadcast so I thankful cnmg have it because a stream is pressure….praying cnmg broadcast it smoothly!

  34. Jo its on CTV which is channel 6 which is local tv

  35. There is always Trotters I suppose

  36. Ok great….no local TV! I wonder if I could see it online…..

  37. I can’t lie to say I’m shocked these fellas playing so well. I just hope they remember that goals win games

  38. Messrs Tim Kee and Sancho should both shut their traps for a bit imho

  39. I was quite happy watching it on FSP2. Them bandwagonists. Steups.

  40. I hope Sancho and the TTFA don’t blight the game later with all this stupid bickering.

  41. Theses fellas is kicks yes. I am just glad I do t have to stream it today

  42. Good thing the team made it this far… smh. Patriotism at its best!! *sarcasm* in other words, no one had confidence in their abilities so broadcasting would hv been a waste? But now they stand great chances n evry1’s present. Bandwagonists in high places.

  43. Can we not have any news about these two while we’re going through the tournament??? Those two could f**k off let’s keep it front and center on the team not those two insignificant insects.

  44. Who gives a shit about who taking credit. Bess both of them left us alone as we were doing fine without those two blights. Steups!
