Awful! Hart says many Warriors didn’t deserve national colours

Trinidad and Tobago National Senior Team head coach Stephen Hart blasted his team’s performance as awful today after a 3-0 loss away to Jordan, which equalled his heaviest defeat as “Soca Warriors” coach.

The Warriors lost 3-0 to a Lionel Messi-led Argentina team on 4 June 2014 at Buenos Aires.

Hart’s troops have now lost all three warm-up games before the July CONCACAF Gold Cup.

“It was extremely disappointing today,” Hart told the TTFA Media. “We were second best, even third best today. We were awful.”

Hart took over the reins of the local senior team in June 2013 and recorded nine wins, four draws and eight losses from his 21 outings in charge. But the former Canada head coach found today’s outing the hardest to swallow as he broke from tradition to criticise his squad.

“I think what hurt most is that there were a number players out there playing for selection for a national team,” he said, “and quite frankly they didn’t deserve to wear a national shirt today. They showed no fight, no desire, no passion and it makes me think what the selection should be for the Gold Cup.

“I don’t want to make any excuses, long flight and some of the players felt a bit legless in the opening minutes but at the end of the day you still have to play the game.”

Hart praised team captain and Cardiff City forward Kenwyne Jones for his work ethic while he also complimented San Jose Earthquakes winger Cordell Cato and substitute Willis Plaza.

“(Cato) started off slow like nearly everybody else but he came into his own today,” said the Warriors coach. “Kenwyne ran his socks off, even though he couldn’t get the shots off that I would have liked. And even (Willis) Plaza came on and played with a lot of passion and desire.

“But both individually and collectively, we were poor.”

The Warriors are expected to reassemble on Monday for a live-in camp in Port of Spain before they head to Fort Lauderdale in early July. Hart said fitness will be the main priority between now and their July 9 Gold Cup opener against Guatemala in Chicago.

“There are a lot of things that need rectifying once we go into camp,” said Hart. “The main priority right now is fitness… We are no where close to international fitness…

“I know what we need to do, what we need to work on and what the priorities are. The first thing on my part is the players selection and getting some sort of balance once we go into the camp.

“We need a situation where we are training twice or three times a day. We need that kind of environment now.

“If you’re not in that environment and you’re training once a day then it’s not good, amateurs train once a day and we have a lot of work to do before the Gold Cup.”

  1. Liburd tell me why dey had to send the team so far away to play an Arabian country dat could hardly play football to come to the realization that the team is awful .. Who paid for that trip?

    • Because all those Countries you name all have serious administrations and already booked friendly matches ahead of time…urgo we had to take what we could get.Besides getting travel experience like this is good for the younger inexperienced players

  2. Coach Hart probably has one of the top 10 hardest national job in the world.

  3. no Prince Borde before i was not worried because i know coach hart ability and he was trying stuff but today i saw mutiny or a rank sh*t team on show

  4. Gordon Pierre doh sweat it nah. Only a friendly right?

  5. football really have me sad!! thought 11/11/11 when guyana beat us was my all time low i think today was even lower

  6. …looks like Hart is getting frustrated…since Molino’s injury…

  7. I don’t see why we had to travel so far to bring these shortcomings to light..it doesn’t make sense to me.

  8. Sorry to say it, but football in T and T died after the 2006 World Cup. We had the best team since the Strike Squad ( best team ever) and greed , arrogance and selfishness destroyed it. I remember being in Queens Park Oval watching the Trinidad – USA qualifier with my younger siblings , and walking all the way back to Belmont crying with everyone else. The Soca Warriors erased that memory and gave T and T hope again. If anyone was serious about football, that team would have been eating sleeping and shitting for the next four years nothing but Soccer. I guess the money was more important. What’s that saying , when Karma bites you in your ass you can’t ever sit down again ?

  9. ..why did we have to go half way around the world to play a practice match? Costa Rica, El Salvador, Honduras next door..

  10. Mango Venezuela busy right now! And usually all other countries(big teams) already have their schedule set. So we does do things last minute and have to find team to play. So we get Jordan

  11. When some one goes to represent…I am sure they will try their best…so every one deserves a chance that is why they were choosen in the first place. ….if they did not live up to the expectation then so be it someone else gets the opportunity ….games will be won and games will be lost…the winners and the losers will be in our colours representing…..and the most we can do is thank them for their service and not denegrade them

  12. I really don’t understand why our Socaworries does have to go so far eh, to always get ah set of licks nah they can stay right here and invite Venezuela and the other Central America countries eh and get the same set of licks steeuuppss Them really goo yes

  13. Wait …. is only 3 we get? WELL DONE TEAM!!….

  14. You aint touch a corn …yuh just not making no sense … but hey not everybody can.

  15. Lasana Liburd he didn’t play poorly. He had 10 minutes lol I thought for sure one of your boys would have gotten their legs broken the kind of tackles thrown out at them. Like All yuh ignore dion. Maybe they guys just not up to par or ready yet. We seem to be in a re building phase. From 89 to 05 was 16 years before we got a good shot at competing. Wait for 22 World Cup. Start planning for that one lol

  16. Tis…tis tis …I touch a corn

  17. Miche Bronte how about you learn about football first before you talk this uneducated , ignorant rubbish

  18. Carlos Lee you giving these band of jokers too many excuses yes. Jet lag meh ass…. we know Hart could coach, we eh know these dudes can play on the intl level…. #getnewplayerswhowanttoplay

  19. Miche Bronte what are you smoking? The reason Canada’s women’s team is so good is because of Hart and the men didn’t want him to go as coach. .

  20. Sorry but the saying “you cannot polish a turd” applied here

  21. He don’t deserve to be a national coach

  22. Ask them what Jose/Wenger/Klopp/Fergie etc could do with this bunch.

  23. We could talk about all the problems we have but you step on the field for your national team make an effort or gtfo. No one can make you put forth an effort except you ….Kenwyn put forth an effort and so did Cato ….what’s the other guys excuse. Man up or stay home.

  24. That would leave our World Cup campaign in tatters Shakira Thompson. Although we are not far from that now.

  25. Carlos Lee, suppose some players are taking their spot for granted? Or maybe bad habits from their club game?
Just adding two other options there…
And Prince Borde, you ever saw Tevez play well off the bench? Steups. Best, they brought on Higuain yes. I suppose they might start him against Jamaica.
Unless Tevez feels suitably inspired, he plays just about as well as some of those Warriors today. Lol

  26. There are so many talented players that never get a real opportunity to play. There are so many issues with the failed systems in place. TTFA is failure. I can go on and on…I no longer expect success. Doing the same thing repeatedly and expecting different results is psycho.

  27. We have 2 come. 2 terms with the fact that they are just not good

  28. Lol Brent Bennett. Let’s be reasonable. I think it’s unlikely players would intentionally go to Jordan and not try to do their best – knowing that a spot on the Gold Cup squad is at stake. Well – unless they’re not interested in playing in that tournament. Is either the coach failed to sufficiently inspire them; they were undeserving of a spot on the team in the first place; or they were suffering from jet-lag. Maybe it’s a combination of the three. Lol

  29. Real sad show.. hart need to drop players. .

  30. Clueless to blame the coach. This falls directly at the feet of our mediocre players and their clubs

  31. Lasana Liburd this is off topic but ah see Argentina pick Tevez! Haven’t heard him complain about coming off the bench! Should have been at the World Cup

  32. How much further do we have to fall until we purge the shite from out football?

  33. So he at fault and not the players? Trini and they thousand coaches.

  34. Poor Hart! I’m almost sure he’ll be gone after the Gold Cup.

  35. Jet lag meh ass Carlos Lee…. watch the highlights. Some dudes playing like is a Sunday morning league. This is the national team. Have some damn pride or go home.

  36. Na Carlos…methinks that’s sounding like a small excuse there…

  37. Hart need to go.
He failed to mentally prepare the team to play.
We need to change our culture. For a team with WARRIORS we don’t show any FIGHT.

    • Sorry no amount of fockin bravehart battle rally will make shithound players knock good ball.
That is on each and everyone of the individual players who feel they have it.
Ask Yorke and Latas and Hislop how much hours daily monthly yearly blood sweat and tears to maybe have a shot at being a top footballer.
It’s a fockin’ crime some of the turds passing as “professional” players
It’s no wonder the best who make it outside on scholarships chose not to get involved with the national squads.
      Straight talk bad manners.
The national squad is indicative of the fuckery mentality running about T&T these days.

    • That’s telling them in a nutshell Damian. If i were Hart i would buss it outa here so fast before that pile of jokers passing for footballers do more damage to his reputation. Let’s not start on all his problems with the administration.

  38. Well, he has got to be pissed. The players should be pissed at their performance as well. Chances are none of their game plans, set play etc worked, only they know.

  39. Ok thanks. Traveling such a long distance then playing after a little over 48 hrs may be a bit much to ask. I suspect several of the players were experiencing jet-lag. Thoughts?

  40. Let’s see. They arrived in Jordan late on Saturday I believe. So they would have trained on Sunday and Monday.

  41. Didn’t he pick all the players?

  42. Lasana Liburd – do you know when the team left for Jordan and how many days after their arrival was the game? Wondering if jet-lag was a major contributing factor in their poor performance.
