Women Warriors still unpaid; TTFA promises accounts for Dec 2 match

Two weeks since the Trinidad and Tobago national senior women’s team played to a nearly packed Hasely Crawford Stadium in the FIFA Play Off second leg match against Ecuador, the “Women’s Soca Warriors” are yet to receive match fees or per diems for their work.

The Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) declared historic ticket prices for the women team’s final 2015 World Cup qualifying match against Ecuador and boasted of a sold-out venue on December 2 in Port of Spain.

At admission fees of TT$200 (covered) and TT$100 (covered), the match was worth as much as TT$2.8 million in gross income while the TTFA also earned revenue from advertising billboards and broadcast rights. The lost earnings due to complimentary tickets and free children’s tickets for the uncovered stand would be deducted from this figure.

The Women Soca Warriors are due match fees of US$500 (TT$3,176) each plus per diems at US$100 (TT$635) a day.

“We haven’t been paid yet,” said Warriors captain Maylee Attin-Johnson. “They said they haven’t gotten all their receipts yet. How long does it take to count money?”

TTFA general secretary Sheldon Phillips said the women that they will not have to wait much longer. Phillips told Wired868 that an accounting statement would be released this evening while office staff has supposedly begun preparing cheques for the players and technical staff.

“The figures (from the Play Off match) are going to be sent out (to the media) today,” said Phillips. “We just sent it for a final run-through… We are writing those cheques (for the women’s senior team) out now.”

Phillips said the TTFA intends to use some of the money raised by the Women Warriors primarily to help develop the women’s game.

  1. yes Lasana most of the national football teams have tournaments one after the other, so money is needed for preparations.Did the TTFA expect these teams not to qualify? Well this is nothing new and not expected to change anytime soon…..just a reality of all situations now..

  2. I woke up this morning and was really happy this story remained just what it is a dead story!! Next please!!!

  3. TTFA want scrapping…..Fire the entire board….Rebrand it so any identity with Warner and his cronies is GONE….am fed up seeing the TTFA’s name associated with unacceptable conduct.

  4. No the TTFA Treasurer…LOL! They need the help.

  5. Adrian, the PNM treasurer?…Lol…;)

  6. Shame shame shame all kinds of contracts an construction to begin just so but our athletes has to beg an suffer, imagine monies is given to religious organization in quick time , Tim Kee, sports minister an finance minister has to face the music for their dog gone slack they serve us.

  7. Good point savitri. They seem to operate week to week in terms of their planning.
Bet no one has considered the under-17 boys team which plays after the under-20s.

  8. I wonder if Tim Kee will hire me as their Treasurer ?

  9. Come on TTFA, The athletes work their asses off for T&T, Compensate our girls, and to booth, its the festive season, get off ya’ll asses and spread some Christmas cheer, what happen, ya’ll have no conscience?

  10. Clearly Kester Lendor you don’t know what it takes to be a pro athlete.

  11. WHATTTTTTT!!!!!!!(Anil voice) I have nothing to say to you again!

  12. Jevon Cox, try to make some sense with that juvenile analogy nuh. Playing for the national team is not employment bredda.

  13. SMFH. I want to be unsympathetic because they obviously did not learn from the bobol and misery involving the Male Warriors. If at least 3/4 of the stipulated contract sum is not in your bank accounts the week before kick-off BURN de f****n’ uniform and tell TTFA to haul dey muddah ****!

  14. Bonus for playing and representing T&T

  15. That was before the game…….and you should take that up with the government.

  16. That 50 thousand was bonus money from the government.

  17. They will always be in that location if they continue with their unaccountability

  18. Didn’t they get the 50 thousand dollars already?

  19. The history has been distrust with the m’gmt of football. That is not a now phenomenon. As we have seen Corp T&T is only willing to come on board when its the big time. But fund raising stuff will have to be football related except there’s little support for the game presently unless it is a high profile game. This costs a lot of money which the TTFA claims to not have so it seems as if they’re caught between a rock and a hard place.

  20. Apparently Kester Lendor is unemployed because according to him when someone works they shouldn’t be paid because other department needs to be paid as well.

  21. Kestor, the TTFA has a schedule in advance, these are adults we speak of running an organisation, how can they not know? Where’s their fundraising drive? Corporate sponsorship? No one trusts them with their money that’s why they’ve found themselves in this situation.

  22. Hopefully not Savi, hopefully not. The point i’m making is that it seems everyone is anxious for the TTFA to pay players and whatever but we have another team that cant go on a warm-up tour because of no funds. It’s probably a nightmare trying to figure out how to allocate that little bit of money and multiple teams preparing for competition.

  23. D same shit TTFF ova & ova & ppl does wonder y d country doh qualify 4 major tournaments!

  24. Kestor, they need to stop begging the Gov’t all the time and start being responsible with the funds the receive. It’s the irresponsibility and thieving that have them in this situation. The cushion in the kitty you speak of will prob be spent on another Millien.

  25. Hear nuh, lets not forget that there are female U15, U17, and U20 teams in training also eh. Additionally male teams including a U23, so allyuh if the people see a small profit let them try work out how they gonna fund all these national teams nuh. I’m not defending the TTFA but i don’t know of any CEO, General sec or President that would not want a lil cushion in the kitty going forward with the myriad of teams and expenses in the next year.

  26. I’m of the belief that the proceeds of that match, could cover the team’s salaries…….but maybe bonuses are being calculated for the administrators because they did such a good job at fulling the stadium to capacity!

  27. Correction $1.6 million profit via Wired868 Lol

  28. Didn’t the TTFA pocket 1.2 million? SMDH

  29. I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were them.

  30. You know it is just by coincidence that I saw one of the members of the TTFA earlier on Wrightson Road driving his new license plate Audi. He was probably trying to go to the Bank for the Ladies before,it closed…#HopefullyTheyGetIt4Christmas!!!

  31. Didn’t they get some big money before the match?

  32. Like it’s a conditioned response

  33. Kirwin as soon as they see Lasana coming they know what to say now

  34. Is either Wired868 waits till the day before to release these articles, or Phillips waits on Wired868. But as soon as Wired868 contacts Phillips or the TTFA, the answer is always, “the matter will be rectified tomorrow”, or “we already on to it and will be resolved within 24 hours”. This man full of refuse !

  35. No surprise here. Phillips is not an accountant .

  36. What does final accounts have to do with paying these young ladies their just due? How long does it take to count money??????

  37. I am beginning to think this football money fairy nah real !

  38. in the interview on i95, Tim Kee told Andre Baptiste that the women were paid their match fees.

  39. any thing new coming out from the ttfa i guess not

  40. “We haven’t been paid yet,” said Warriors captain Maylee Attin-Johnson. “They said they haven’t gotten all their receipts yet. How long does it take to count money?”

I guess they paying themselves first, players last, as usual. If Maylee and her team wants to go picket the TTFA before Xmas, let us know on Wired868.

  41. I believe, one of the biggest problems is that the TTFA has very little or no funds banked. If they did have funds for doing business in account, the girls would have been paid the next day or at most within the week after the match.
The TTFA, like the formerly TTFF, is seriously in need of reorganization with a renewed business model and executive officers devoid of political ties but whose interest is in the betterment of the sport of T&T football.
Clearly TTFA accounting behaviors are not within contemporary accounting practices and are over-burdened by skulduggery, shenanigans, and politics.
I recommend that once the organization is revamped that it be a mandatory requirement to have quarterly reports publicized after an independent disinterested accounting firm audited the books, so that the people of T&T would regain confidence in the leadership, management, mission and vision of the TTFA.
