E/Mucurapo, St Benedict’s cop zonal Intercol titles

East Mucurapo Secondary, who was recently relegated from the SSFL Premier Division competition after finishing second from bottom, producing a stunning result via kicks from the penalty spot yesterday to beat St Mary’s College to the North Intercol title.

There were no goals in the contest at the Hasely Crawford Stadium and, in the subsequent shoot out, Mucurapo emerged 3-2 winners to move into the National Intercol quarterfinal round against Tobago champion, Speyside Secondary, on Tuesday November 25 from 4.30 pm at Roxborough.

It was the second successive shootout success for East Mucurapo after the team eliminated St Anthony’s College via the same route in the North semifinal.

Elsewhere on Thursday evening, St Benedict’s College and East Carapichaima Secondary also produced upsets on Thursday to clinch the South and Central Intercol titles respectively.

St Benedict’s shocked Naparima College 2-1 while Carapichaima dethroned Chaguanas North Secondary with a 3-1 triumph.

Carapichaima’s fate may lie with the SSFL’s disciplinary board, though, as Chaguanas North protested the former school’s use of player Keon Browne who, allegedly, should have been ineligible to play in the Central final due to his accumulation of yellow cards.

The Central winner is due to play St Benedict’s in the National Intercol Semifinal on Thursday November 27 at the Mannie Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella.

In the other semifinal fixture, East champion school San Juan North Secondary will challenge either East Mucurapo or Speyside at the Larry Gomes Stadium, Malabar on Friday November 28.
