James among five T&T Women’s additions for crucial W/Cup qualifier; but Ke’die out

Talented box-to-box midfielder Asha James has rejoined the Trinidad and Tobago Women’s National Senior Team for next Friday’s closing Group F contest against El Salvador at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain.

The Women Soca Warriors need a win to qualify for the 2026 Concacaf W Championship and keep their Brazil 2027 Fifa Women’s World Cup dreams alive.

At present, Trinidad and Tobago trail El Salvador by two points—after a 5-0 opening win against Barbados and 2-2 draw away to Honduras. El Salvador have a perfect record so far, with a 3-0 triumph over Honduras and a 13-0 mauling of Barbados.

James, who represented Trinidad and Tobago against Barbados but withdrew from the squad before their outing against Honduras on 5 March, is among five changes to coach Damian Briggs’ team.

The other additions are James’ AC Port of Spain teammate and former national youth teammate Summer Arjoon as well as the USA-based trio of forward Nia Hislop, defender Sakiah Williams, and midfielder Sonia Lamarre.

Hislop, a 22-year-old forward at University of Massachusetts (UMass), is the daughter of Trinidad and Tobago’s 2026 World Cup goalkeeper and former England Premier League standout Shaka Hislop.

However, Briggs is without influential, dynamic left back Ke’die Johnson, who was concussed recently while representing France top flight club, AS Saint-Étienne, and has not recovered in time for the trip.

Gifted Bishop Anstey High School East teenaged playmaker Orielle Martin is also out with injury while talented 23-year-old attacker Maria-Frances Serrant, who plays professionally in Saudi Arabia, has not represented her country this year.

Defender Chrissy Mitchell and Shaunalee Govia and midfielders Lorall Romain, T’kaiya Dennis, and Natalia Gosine are replaced from Trinidad and Tobago’s last match day squad.

The quintet were unused substitutes against Honduras.

Briggs assured Trinidad and Tobago football fans that his team is as strong as possible, going into next Friday’s decisive fixture.

“We’ve selected what we believe is the best possible squad at this time,” Briggs told the TTFA Media. “There are a couple new additions who will bring added depth, along with some experienced players returning to the group.

“We head into camp this weekend, and it’s a critical period for us, but everyone is in good shape, fit, and ready to get down to business.”
