Big 5: Hillview, Speyside and Mucurapo West in mix, as fixtures confirmed

The 2025 Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) First Citizens Boys Big Five competition kicks off on Wednesday 29 October, with five schools seeking the hottest ticket in Trinidad and Tobago youth football: an invitation to the Premier Division.

The dust has not yet cleared on the respective zonal competitions.

An invasion of bees at the Point Fortin East Secondary ground yesterday forced a postponement of their clash with Palo Seco Secondary. If Palo Seco win in the rescheduled fixture, they will leapfrog Pleasantville Secondary to the South Zone title and their first even spot in the Big Five.

In Central, the delay in anointing the champion school is due to a protest by Chaguanas North Secondary against a decision to award Presentation College (Chaguanas) three points for poor field marking, which meant their clash did not play.

At present, Presentation are kings-in-waiting and seeking a historic berth in the SSFL top flight. However, they could potentially be forced to meet Chaguanas North on the field again.

If a replay is ordered, Presentation would need only a draw to secure the title and head to the Big Five.

Mucurapo West Secondary, like Palo Seco and Presentation (Chaguanas), are also chasing history as they beat neighbours East Mucurapo Secondary to their first ever zonal title and now have their eyes on promotion to the Premier Division.

They kick off the Big Five competition at home against the South Zone winners on Wednesday 29 October, while Hillview are away to the Central champs, with Speyside Secondary on a bye.

Hillview, rampant in the East Zone, are hoping that it’s a case of second time lucky after narrowly missing out on promotion to the top flight in the last Big Five.

Speyside, the Tobago champs, are looking for immediate reinstatement upstairs, after being relegated in the 2024 Premier Division season.
