Corbin, Gill, Joevin and Muckette in Eve’s 25-man squad to face Saint Martin

Trinidad and Tobago Men’s National Senior Team head coach Angus Eve today announced a 25-man squad to face Saint Martin on Sunday, which includes veteran utility player Joevin Jones and the teenaged duo of Real Gill and Kaihim Thomas.

The two nations will square off from 6pm on 29 January at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, in a dress rehearsal for their respective Concacaf Nations League assignments in March. Admission is TT$40 for adults with no cover charge for children.

Twenty months into the job, Eve has led Trinidad and Tobago into battle for just 13 international games, with five of them coming at the 2021 Concacaf Gold Cup. In the available Fifa match windows since his appointment, the Warriors should have played at least 21 times.

(At present, Eve’s record stands at five wins, three draws, four defeats and one penalty shootout triumph after a 1-1 tie with French Guiana.)

Saint Martin, then, represent a rare opportunity for a debut appearance for Defence Force midfielder Justin Sadoo, who is already 25. Versatile defender Darnell Hospedales (23), the National Under-20 pair of Gill and Thomas, and former Presentation College (San Fernando) goalkeeper Isaiah “Blinky” Williams are also uncapped and in the mix this weekend.

They will share the dressing room with evergreen goalkeeper Marvin Phillip as well as right back Alvin Jones, midfielders Neveal Hackshaw and Duane Muckette, and flankers Reon Moore and John-Paul Rochford, who have been regulars in the national set-up since Eve was hired in June 2020.

As usual, Eve did not name a specialist centre-forward in his squad and would probably ask one of his pacy flankers to play through the middle.
