Stern, Whitley, Maylee and Mollon in Wired868’s Sunday line-up

Former 2006 World Cup hero and Premier League striker Stern John heads a cast of past and present national football stars who will descend on the UWI SPEC ground from 4 pm on February 1 as the third annual Wired868 Football Festival kicks off in St Augustine.

The event brings together former national youth and senior players from different eras in a spirit of fun and camaraderie and also gives football fans a chance to join the lime. The action kicks off at 4.30 pm.

The Wired868 XI veterans drew the inaugural festival 2-2 to a Earl “Mango” Pierre XI in 2013 before losing 10-4 in the return fixture in 2014. A certain sport television presenter might not want to remember his time in goal on that evening!

But, even with the absence of stalwarts like Leonson Lewis and Clayton Morris, the Wired868 veterans plan to spring a surprise this year with a squad that mixes the experience of 1991 Under-20 World Cup duo Anthony Sherwood and Roger Henry, “Strike Squad” players Hutson Charles and Anton Corneal and former national senior and youth team players like Lyndon Andrews, Reynold Carrington, Chris Durity and Clyde Leon and the St Lucian duo of former Pro League legends Earl Jean and Elijah Joseph with the fresh legs of “Women Soca Warrior” stand-outs Ahkeela Mollon, Khadidra and Khadisha Debesette.

Brent Sancho, another 2006 World Cup player, will run the opposition camp this year although he will not be present on game day.

However, his more youthful squad includes John, who played with Wired868 last year, and 2006 stand-out Aurtis Whitley along with “Women Soca Warrior” captain Maylee Attin-Johnson and accomplice Kennya “Yaya” Cordner and former national youth and senior team players in David Atiba Charles, Gary Glasgow, Marvin Joseph, Darin Lewis and last year’s MVP Lorne Joseph.

Admission is free and there will be entertainment from a house DJ as well as a bouncy castle for children.

  4. Next year we will plan better Lasana Liburd. Not the same day as PAN and have some restrictions on players that can participate in the Foreign Base vs Wired868 All Stars game. Now we know what’s going on. #Fair

  5. Anthony Sherwood, next year for sure! We will plan early! Remember they have a team that is always in action. We will have a pre-season! 🙂

  6. Well it end up Speng vs Leonson and Yaya vs Ahkeela. Sorry that Speng(2) and Yaya(3) kill off Wired868. Lol

  8. I am hoping that Wired868 Lasana Liburd team doesn’t win nah, because his story about the game will be about satire and pounding the loosers yes. hahahahaha

  9. A toss up between my two loves. Football and Pan. Bring it foward a day and then we’ll have a happy medium. Just asking.

  10. Get fit… Get fit! You coming down Sheldon Scipio? You would be at Central’s game instead right?

  11. should I do some sit ups and shuttles now Lasana Liburd ?

  12. Michael Morris, the concept behind the event is first and foremost to bring together the coaches and players.
However the National Under-20 team was on the road for the whole of January and the National Under-17 team leaves next weekend. So this is the only window for them.
Hopefully, next year will be different as it is the first time it has clashed with Panorama.

  13. Allyuh carnival zombies smh! Carnival now not even appreciative of its history. Only jump an wine..

  14. Couldn’t they pick a better day? It would be great to see those guys play but Sunday is PAN!!

  16. One of my many jobs during my “I don’t know what I want to do yet” phase was a promoter, you want a bigger crowd?
