King, Jangoo among WI ODI inclusions; Sammy wants to “continue momentum” against Pakistan

Fast bowler Alzarri Joseph remains on “extended rest to continue workload management” as he was not named in the West Indies’ 15-member squad to face Pakistan in three CG United One-Day Internationals (ODIs) on 8, 10 and 12 August at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Tarouba, Trinidad.

Batsman Brandon King returns from injury though while Amir Jangoo, Evin Lewis and Justin Greaves were also selected, as head coach Daren Sammy targets ranking points ahead of the ICC 2027 Men’s Cricket World Cup.

“Pakistan presents a different test and challenge as we continue our push for automatic qualification for the 2027 World Cup,” Sammy told the CWI Media. “While qualifying is our immediate goal, maintaining a winning mentality and team cohesion is essential for long-term success.

“The upcoming matches against teams like Pakistan, who are ranked higher, provide crucial opportunities to earn valuable ranking points to improve our standing ahead of the World Cup.”

At present, Pakistan are ranked fifth in the world in the 50-over format while West Indies are 10th—the lowest off all Test nations.

Sammy’s squad were swept 3-0 by England in an ODI series in May. However, the CWI Media noted that West Indies won three last three ODI matches at home, during home series wins over England and Bangladesh in 2024.

Sammy suggested too that he “is excited for the team to continue the momentum of the last 18 months”—despite a string of 2025 losses to England, Australia and Pakistan.
