Intercol 24: Miracle Ministries into Central final; Mason Hall punished for illegal player

Miracle Ministries Pentecostal High School (MMPHS) will chase their first Central Zone Intercol title on Monday 18 November, after they whipped second tier outfit Presentation College (Chaguanas) 5-0 in zonal semifinal action at the Ato Boldon Stadium yesterday.

Aaron Clement and Keon Codrington scored two goals apiece for MMPHS while central defender Terriq Thomas also got on the scorecard.

They will face Chaguanas North Secondary in the Central Zone final. Chaguanas North faced a more dramatic path to the showcase event, as they edged Carapichaima East Secondary 3-1 on kicks from the penalty mark—after a goalless encounter.

Elsewhere in Tobago, there was a late change to the semifinal line-up with Bishop’s High School replacing Mason Hill Secondary via the protest room.

Mason Hill Secondary defeated Bishop’s 4-1 last Thursday in a clash between two Championship Division outfits. However, the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Disciplinary Committee accepted Bishop’s protest that Mason Hall attacker Rickeldi Williams, who scored a hattrick, was actually an illegal player.

Williams, a Mason Hall student, represented Stokely Vale FC in a Tobago Football Association (TFA) match against Black Rock at Courland Recreation Ground on 30 October 2024.

According to SSFL rules, a player who competes in another TTFA sanctioned competition automatically loses his registration and must reapply to play in the schools’ league.

Mason Hall Secondary’s failure to re-register Williams cost them a Tobago Intercol semifinal spot, which went to Bishop’s High.

Bishop’s High had an improved showing in today’s semifinal too but ultimately went down 2-0 to Signal Hill Secondary in the opening match of a double header at the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Bacolet. Both goals came in the final 10 minutes of the game.

There was an upset in the second semifinal though, as Scarborough Secondary, the Tobago Championship Division winners, eliminated Premier Division side Speyside High 4-3 on penalties—after scores finished 2-2 in regulation time.

Signal Hill and Scarborough will contest the 2024 Tobago Intercol trophy from 5.30pm in Bacolet on Wednesday 20 November.

In south Trinidad, there was a tweak in the fixtures as the semifinal derby between bigwigs Presentation College (San Fernando) and Naparima College has been moved from the Mahaica Sporting Complex to the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva on Friday 15 November.

The move was due to concerns about Mahaica Sporting Complex’s ability to adequately host a doubleheader due to limited dressing rooms and parking.

Point Fortin football fans still have some football to look out for as St Benedict’s College tackle Pleasantville Secondary from 3.30pm in Mahaica.

Action continues as scheduled in east and north Trinidad with defending champions Arima North Secondary and St Anthony’s College still alive in the semifinal round.

Arima North face Trinity College East from 3.30pm in the first game of a doubleheader at the Arima Velodrome tomorrow while, on Thursday, St Anthony’s tackle Queen’s Royal College from 5.30pm in the closing fixture of Diego Martin Complex double feature.
