SSFL 23 Premier fixtures in full: St Benedict’s start campaign in San Juan

Defending Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Premier Division champions, St Benedict’s College, will kick off their 2023 campaign on the road against eastern giants San Juan North Secondary on Wednesday 13 September, as the SSFL executive confirmed fixtures for the upcoming season.

The draft fixtures suggested a home start for St Benedict’s against East Mucurapo Secondary. But, after further talks including feedback from schools, the SSFL Fixtures Committee opted to swap the first and second rounds of the Premier Division.

There was an exception. Fatima College were due to host Speyside High Secondary in an eye-raising run of five straight home matches to start their season. (One of those Fatima fixtures was technically an away match—but against East Mucurapo who share the Fatima school ground on Mucurapo Road.)

Instead, Fatima are now requested to travel to Speyside Recreation Ground for their second league fixture while their clash with Bishop’s High School was moved to Mucurapo Road in a trade-off.

Fatima, the reigning National Intercol champions, open their season against St Anthony’s College on Mucurapo Road on Wednesday 13 September.

Bishop’s High are one of three newly promoted teams and their first game back in the top flight is away to Speyside on 13 September in a Tobago derby.

St Mary’s College, the 2023 National Big Five champs, also resume their Premier Division experience on the road to southern outfit, Pleasantville Secondary.

The third promoted school is Arima North Secondary, who are back in the top flight for the first time in eight years. The “Dial Dynamos” host southern powerhouses, Presentation College (San Fernando), from 3.30pm on Wednesday 13 September at the Arima Velodrome.

  1. Looking forward to this season. St Benedict’s and Fatima should once again be the teams to beat. They have deep talent pools. Pres should be a major challenger as well. Naps has brought some talented players but I hope those players attend classes.
