Pro League scores: “Lobo” scores but D/Force clobber Connection, Sando hold Central

Early Pro League leaders W Connection ended their seventh match week in second place after a shock 4-1 loss to Defence Force yesterday at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva.

Pre-season signing Marcus “Lobo” Joseph grabbed his joint League high fourth goal this season for Connection to pull him level with teammate Neil Benjamin Jr. But, by the time, Joseph got on the scoresheet in the 90th minute, the game had already been effectively decided.

And it was the Defence Force’s new recruits who shone brightest as former Guaya United and North East Stars winger Reon Moore snatched a double while journeyman Dylon King—who list of past employers include Caledonia, Police FC and St Ann’s Rangers—and Kellon Serrette chipped in a goal apiece. Only Serrette was a member of the “Teteron Boys” last season.

Connection ended the match with 10 players after Dominica international midfielder Briel Thomas received a second caution, midway through the second half.

The result meant Stars remained three points clear at the top of the standings with a game in hand while the Army/Coast Guard combination climbed two places to sixth.

In yesterday’s other completed fixture, defending champions, Central FC, went their third straight match week without a win as they were held 1-1 by Club Sando. Akim Armstrong, a pre-season signing from Morvant Caledonia United, got a last minute equaliser for Sando, which nullified Central full back Kaydion Gabriel’s second half strike.

Sando are third in the 10-team standings and five points shy of Stars while Central are fourth—with nine points from six games—and trail the leaders by seven points.
