‘Naps’ are one point away from fourth Premier title; Kai set to finish as top scorer

Naparima College will defend the Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Premier Division title for the second time this afternoon with only a draw against Queen’s Royal College at the St Mary’s College ground on Serpentine Road.

‘Naps’ are chasing their fourth Premier Division gong in six seasons. No other school has even won the award twice with fellow southern teams, Presentation College (San Fernando) and Shiva Boys Hindu College, managing to lift the accolade once each.

Presentation, who are in second place at present, still have a mathematical chance at the 2019 trophy. However, ‘Pres’ must defeat fourth placed St Anthony’s College in Westmoorings and hope that QRC stun Naparima in St Clair.

The ‘Westmoorings Tigers’ can finish no higher than third but they are close to an individual prize as forward Kai Phillip leads all scorers at present with 14 goals from 12 matches—the former Trinity College (Moka) attacker missed one match through suspension.

St Augustine Secondary attacker Tyrese Spicer is second with 13 goals but the ‘Green Machine’ have already finished their Premier Division fixtures this season. And Presentation’s Jaiye Sheppard (10 goals), Naparima’s Seon Shippley and QRC’s Nathaniel James (9 goals) might be too far away now to pip Phillip at the death.

There are also two Coca Cola North Zone Intercol preliminary fixtures carded for today as Malick Secondary tackle Diego Martin North Secondary from 3pm and Trinity Moka take on St Francis Boys from 5pm in a Hasely Crawford Stadium, Port of Spain double header.
