After seven months of “preliminary investigations” into the crash of Caribbean Airlines flight BW523, which overshot the runway at the Cheddi Jaggan Airport in Georgetown, the Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) declared yesterday that the accident was due to “insufficient runway” for the pilot’s landing.
The Civil Aviation Authority of Trinidad and Tobago (CAA) were unhappy with the timing of the GCAA statement though. CAA Director General Ramesh Lutchmedial found the release premature as “conclusions could not be drawn at this time”.
