Former Trinidad and Tobago Men’s National Under-17 Team defender and East Mucurapo Secondary stand-out Tekay Hoyce was shot dead by an unknown assailant tonight, at the corner of Charlotte Street and Independence Square, Port of Spain.
Hoyce was 28-years-old.

Up to the time of publication, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) had not issued a statement on the murder. However, Crime Wave TT said its sources claimed Hoyce had been dodging death for the past two weeks—after his alleged friend, Jalani George, was gunned down on Ariapita Avenue on Sunday 14 December.
Hoyce made it to Christmas—but not New Year’s Day.
Before Hoyce became known to the underworld, he was a promising footballer. In 2014, after disciplinary issues saw him relegated to the bench by coach Selris Figaro, Hoyce came on to score the winner in the National Intercol final as East Mucurapo edged St Benedict’s College 1-0 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.
It was East Mucurapo’s first National Intercol title since 2008, when Soca Warriors stars Kevin Molino and Joevin Jones were schoolboys. They have not won since either.

Three months later, Hoyce was a starter for Trinidad and Tobago at the 2015 Concacaf Under-17 Championship in Honduras, under coach Shawn Cooper.
Hoyce’s teammates included Noah Powder, Isaiah Garcia, Darnell Hospedales, Keston Julien and John-Paul Rochford, who all went to earn national senior caps and are professional players at present.
Hoyce, a Central FC youth player, never advanced to the ranks of the local top flight senior competition though, as he turned his efforts towards another avenue.
And, at 28, he met his end.
