SSFL 25: Watkins revives Signal Hill’s title challenge, as they edge CIC 1-0

Signal Hill Secondary revived their Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Premier Division challenge yesterday with a 1-0 win over St Mary’s College in a rescheduled fixture at Signal Hill, Tobago.

Attacker J’meke Watkins’ second half goal pushed the Tobago outfit to seventh in the 16-team table, as they are well on course to better their highest post-pandemic finish of ninth place. More important, Signal Hill remain with a mathematical shot of claiming the Premier title.

At present, Signal Hill are 14 points adrift of leaders St Benedict’s College—but with a whopping five games in hand, due to a string of postponements linked to inter-island travel.

Signal Hill are due in Trinidad on Monday 10 November when they are scheduled to play Queen’s Royal College, before they host St Anthony’s College on Thursday 13 November and St Augustine Secondary on Sunday 16 November.

They must win all three games, in the space of seven days, to remain in contention for their first Premier Division title.

Even then, they will still have three outstanding games away to Naparima College and Malick Secondary and at home to Trinity College East, which do not even have dates at the moment.

Controversially, there is no plan to have all teams finish the 2025 Premier Division on the same match day.

In the closing Premier game this week, San Juan North Secondary travel to Trinity College in Moka today.

The “San Juan Kings”, who are 13th and one point above the relegation zone, need a win to help secure their top flight future. However, for sixth place Trinity (Moka), three points can give the newly promoted school a chance of finishing inside the Premier Division’s top five.
