Dear Editor: Take a bow, Soca Warriors! What a fightback!

“[…] Reon Moore is becoming ‘the inevitable’—that’s the tenacity and fox in the box work you need. Off the ball he was superb. Nathaniel James, what did they give him to drink? Bend it like Beckham! […]”

The following Letter to the Editor on Trinidad and Tobago’s 3-2 win over Guatemala in a Concacaf Nations League A fixture on Friday 13 October 2023 was submitted to Wired868 by Kendell Karan of Chaguanas:

James scored from the dead-ball with a cracking shot, while Jones scored a penalty earlier as the Soca Warriors won 3-2.

What a fightback fellas! Angus Eve pulled a trick from up his sleeve!

When the referees were announced to be an El Salvador unit, I was skeptical but the right calls were given: no need for VAR, heart in mouth, that kind of thing.

Fair play to Guatemala, their two goals were clinical—but what a fightback from the Soca Warriors!

Angus Eve’s substitutions were a masterstroke. The starting eleven needed a centre forward to link up with Ryan Telfer and Noah Powder.

Reon Moore is becoming “the inevitable”—that’s the tenacity and fox in the box work you need. Off the ball he was superb.

Nathaniel James, what did they give him to drink? Bend it like Beckham!

I don’t think Angus Eve needed to give a hair dryer in the dressing room at halftime, the twelfth man needed a performance from them. The players knew that we had to give us something, we were never going to leave their side.

Let’s make this a habit, again, squad selection has paid off.

On a negative note, Shamfa Cudjoe is becoming a nuisance and a bandwagonist, such that she is taking pictures and celebrating with successful athletes in their moment while they aren’t fully clothed—similar to the gold medal winning swimmers at the recent Commonwealth games.

This is not the first time. For the Women’s football games, she was appearing in post-match press conferences as well. That is not her place.

She is part of the problem facing all athletes, all sports and the current affairs in our country. She is doing that as public relations to sanitize her image and regain a couple of votes.

Nonetheless, we are proud of you Soca Warriors. We move on, we nuh fraid ah nobody!

  1. The team is showing great potential and fight (this display will certainly add to the support base as the tournament progress) but we still need a comprehensive plan for local soccer. The team needs support (this is not only about government involvement but what about corporate TNT). The benefits of providing opportunities to youths to get into some productive activities and possibly reduce the attraction of criminal behaviour that is all around.

  2. Who is writing this article talking about Angus pull trick from his sleeve….What tricks???Moore and Natty has been the most 2 Dangerous players for T&T for how long now so what this person talking bout
And unless that statement about the Ref got it right when that first goal was CLEAR OFFSIDE this editor was being sarcastic think you should go hand out with Shamfa cus you both have less knowledge of what’s going on

  3. Well done crowd. You built the atmosphere. It was interactive. Little analysis about Guatemala. How come they did not perform in the 2nd half? Maybe wired can do an article…Why Guatemala failed to build?

  4. There are no free lunches, breds! You want govt support? Well, don’t fool your fat, it is served with govt ministers.
