“[…] We believe that the Covid-19 vaccination should be an individual choice and have encouraged our church members to be vaccinated.
“The views expressed by some members [within the Christian community] do not represent views shared by all or necessarily by the majority…”
The following media release on Covid-19 vaccines was submitted to Wired868 by the Open Bible Standard Churches, after ‘TT Response’, a group of Evangelic pastors, slammed the World Health Organization’s promotion of vaccination as a measure for combatting the novel coronavirus:
The national board of the Open Bible Standard Churches of Trinidad and Tobago Incorporated shares the nation’s concerns for the current Covid-19 pandemic and its severe negative impact on our citizens and families.
The bible reminds us that good health is a divine blessing from God (3 John 1:3). Out of genuine concern for our nation and people, we state the following position:
We believe that the Covid-19 vaccination should be an individual choice and have encouraged our church members to be vaccinated. Those who have health concerns about being vaccinated should seek advice from their trusted medical professionals.
There are varied opinions within the Christian community regarding the Covid-19 vaccines. The views expressed by some members do not represent views shared by all or necessarily by the majority.
We support the right of all citizens to free expression of their opinion while at the same time maintaining a healthy respect for each other and especially those in authority (Romans 13: 1-5; Titus 3: 1-2). Therefore, we should all not allow divergence of views to divide society.
We also have a God-directed responsibility to pray for our governing authorities that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life—godly and dignified in every way. This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God, our Saviour (1 Timothy 2: 1-3).
Concerning the Covid-19 pandemic, we as citizens continue to learn from each other, especially our medical professionals to make informed decisions while at the same time strengthening our immune system and maintaining our overall good health.
We encourage all to continue practising the necessary public health protocols to assist with the general safety and protection of ourselves, our family, our work colleagues and our national community.
Open Bible Standard Churches of Trinidad and Tobago Incorporated continues to pray without ceasing for our nation and the good health of all its citizens (Exodus 15: 26).
