Second Covid-19 death was a cruise ship passenger, Tobago health worker tests positive

The Ministry of Health has acknowledged its second Covid-19 related death. The deceased patient, according to a government statement, was ‘an elderly gentleman with pre-existing medical complications’, who passed away ‘despite the best efforts of the health care professionals’.

Wired868 understands the deceased was one of the 73 citizens from this month’s infamous Costa Favolosa cruise. He was initially quarantined at Balandra before his positive result.

At present, Trinidad and Tobago has had 66 positive cases from 453 samples. One person has been discharged, after being asymptomatic for the required period of time with two negative tests within 24 hours.

Forty-seven of the positive results came from the Costa Favolosa trip, with 44 from the Balandra-based group and three who were quarantined separately.

The Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Communications Unit also revealed today that the sister isle has a second positive case.

“The individual, who is a healthcare worker at the Scarborough General Hospital, has since been isolated and is being closely monitored,” said the THA release. “Since the individual is unwell, the person will be transferred to Trinidad to undergo additional treatment, as per established protocols.”

Thus far, Tobago has had 15 tests with two positives.
