Lawrence names team to face Venezuela; Levi and Bateau are in while Marcus and Hackshaw among inclusions

Trinidad and Tobago Men’s National Senior Team head coach Dennis Lawrence announced his 20-man squad to face Venezuela today with few omissions from the outfit that fell 2-0 to Honduras in Port of Spain on Thursday night.

Team captain and midfielder Khaleem Hyland, goalkeeper Marvin Phillip, attacking midfielder Kevin Molino and defender Daneil Cyrus will not travel to Caracas, due to club commitments. Flanker Joevin Jones, who was an unused substitute against Honduras, was also allowed to return to his club.

However, Lawrence still has nine of the 14 players used in his last Concacaf Nations League outing including winger Levi Garcia, defender Sheldon Bateau, playmaker Ataulla Guerra and midfielder Leston Paul. India-based forward Marcus Joseph, US-based utility player Neveal Hackshaw and Defence Force holding midfielder Aaron Lester were among the additions to his squad.

Lawrence promised to give some of his more inexperience players a chance to show what they can do against Venezuela.

“The way I look at it now we have to think long term,” Lawrence said after the defeat on Thursday. “Every game now counts for something. Now you look at it and you ask yourself, is he ready or is he not. The only way you can find out is putting them in the situation.

“So we got Venezuela and the only way we are going to know if somebody like Keston Julien [and] Andre Fortune are ready is we need put them in that situation and then find out […] what would happen.”
