NLCL 24: Correia scores handful as City FC rout Blast 12-1; AIA fall to SMS

When Blast FC opened the scoring within 60 seconds of the kickoff against QPCC – City FC yesterday, they probably had little idea of what lay ahead in their NLCL U19 Community Cup fixture at the Prime Minister’s Recreation Ground in Five Rivers.

Suffice to say that it did not get much better for Blast, as City FC recovered to win by a whopping 12 goals! Luke Correia scored a handful for the “Parkites” while Caden Trestrail got a beavertrick and Seth Hadeed notched a double.

The massive City win, coupled with a stumble for Athletic International Academy (AIA), saw the west Port of Spain team take pole position in Group A—two points clear of AIA.

At the Eddie Hart Recreation Ground, AIA tasted defeat for the first time this season as they were outgunned 3-1 by Soccer Made Simple (SMS).

Attacking midfielder Stephano Christopher got his fourth goal of the season for SMS while Zakari King and Deisean Plaza were also among the scorers. Forward Jean-Marc Thomas got the lone goal for AIA, who were without their inspirational captain Theo Crovador.

Elsewhere in Malabar, the Malabar Young Stars kept their own fading hopes of a top three finish alive as they routed Cantaro United 5-1, with a hattrick by Samuel Charles.
