St Anthony’s College edge East Mucurapo to keep pace with SSFL frontrunners

St Anthony’s College kept pace with the SSFL Premier Division frontrunners today after a 1-0 win over East Mucurapo Secondary in a rescheduled fixture at Westmoorings.

Veteran central defender Nicholas Moyou grabbed the winner—his first goal of the season—which saw the Westmoorings Tigers maintain their unbeaten start to the 2016 season.

St Anthony’s have four wins and one draw from five outings so far this season, which matches the 13 points held by defending champions Naparima College and Shiva Boys Hindu College. At present, Presentation College (San Fernando) lead the pack with 15 points. However, Presentation and Shiva have played a game more than St Anthony’s.

For newly promoted East Mucurapo, it was another luckless outing. The northern school have now lost three of their five outings by a single goal with just one point from a 1-1 weekend draw with Shiva Boys.

The table proppers will have to dust themselves off and try again on Wednesday when they host Pleasantville Secondary from 3.40pm on Mucurapo Road. Another loss and the anxiety level might go through the roof as East Mucurapo try to avoid a quick return to the Championship Division.

For St Anthony’s, the return of Trinidad and Tobago National Under-17 Team players Che Benny and Tyrese Bailey added depth to their squad and they will need it as the games come quick and fast.

The Tigers are in Westmoorings again on Wednesday when they tackle Trinity College Moka. And, with Naparima College hosting Presentation College at Lewis Street, San Fernando, another St Anthony’s win is bound to see them climb further up the league table.
