SSFL 25 Premier fixtures: Fatima, Benedict’s skip opening weekend while Eve-led ‘Naps’ spy chance

Naparima College, again led by former Soca Warriors head coach Angus Eve, will have the opportunity to make the early running in the 2025 Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) Premier Division season, when they host Trinity College East on Saturday 13 September—on the first competitive match day of the new season.

Defending Premier Division champions Fatima College and formidable National Intercol winners St Benedict’s College will both be on a bye, due to the scheduling of the NGC SSFL Super Cup.

Initially, the Super Cup—the curtain raiser for the season between SSFL league and Intercol champs—was scheduled for Wednesday 10 September. However, the delayed start to the school term by the Ministry of Education prompted a rescheduling by the SSFL executive committee to Friday 12 September.

The 2025 Super Cup features Girls’ Intercol winners, St Joseph’s Convent (Port of Spain), and Big Five champs, Pleasantville Secondary from 3.30pm at the Hasely Crawford Stadium in Port of Spain.

Fatima and St Benedict’s then meet from 5.30pm at the same venue.

The Super Cup would mark the debut for new Fatima head coach Kerdyn Moe, who replaced Hutson Charles at the helm. Moe has two national titles as Fatima under-16 coach under his belt and is also head coach for the Pro Series Under-20 Team.

With Fatima and St Benedict’s obviously unable to compete in successive days, the SSFL opted to postpone their opening matches against Presentation College (San Fernando) and St Anthony’s College respectively, which offers a chance for the likes of Naparima to get an early head start.

Arima North Secondary, who finished fifth in 2024, are away to newly promoted Scarborough Secondary on 13 September while San Juan North Secondary host Signal Hill Secondary in what should be another intriguing matchup.

The most emotive opening game might be the oldest derby in Trinidad and Tobago schools’ football though: St Mary’s College versus Queen’s Royal College at Serpentine Road in St Clair. It is a match that pits 2006 World Cup teammates Cornell Glen (CIC coach) and Kenwyne Jones (QRC coach) against each other.

And, at Moka, there is another important fixture as two newly promoted schools, Trinity College and Carapichaima East Secondary, square off—each looking to make a winning start in their top flight return.
