Trinidad and Tobago Women’s National Senior Team star Asha James accuses the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) of neglect, in a social media post, as the Women Soca Warriors are four months away from their next Concacaf senior competition—yet have not played in 18 months:

Is as if we don’t exist.
People want positions [in the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association] and have no idea how to progress our team in the right direction.
There’s no way we should be three months before a major tournament like this and nothing is in place as yet.
Teams start preparing years in advance for World Cups. The Trinidad and Tobago Women’s National Senior Team start preparing two or three months before.

It’s clear to see they don’t believe in us women getting to the World Cup. Actions speak louder than words…
How can you, as President of the FA, claim that there’s no money to start our programme?
Doesn’t Fifa allocate money each year towards women, separately from the men’s teams?

That statement says it all. They never had a vision for women footballers, hence nothing is in place—mere months before a big tournament like this.

The current Women’s National Senior Team are pleading with TTFA officials to support their own bid to qualify for a World Cup tournament.

Editor’s Note: The Trinidad and Tobago Women’s National Senior Team have been inactive since a 1-0 loss to Mexico in a Concacaf W Gold Cup qualifier on 5 December 2023, which was before Kieron Edwards was elected TTFA president.
A makeshift Women’s team, with 14 teenagers, used High Performance Programme funding to play in a three-nation friendly tournament in May 2024.
However, then Senior Team head coach Richard Hood’s contract expired in mid-2024 and the TTFA is yet to resume team operations—despite declaring a host of sponsorships, including NGC, for the Men’s programme.
