TTFA confirms Fenwick ‘termination’; Corneal, Sherwood and Chinapoo to help pick new coach

“[…] A selection panel led by NC member Nicholas Gomez and comprising Anton Corneal, Anthony Sherwood and Richard Chinapoo will meet to finalise the selection of the interim head coach.

“The interim head coach together with the panel will then establish the supporting team…”

The following is a press statement from the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) regarding changes to the technical staff of the Men’s National Senior Team:

The Fifa-appointed normalisation committee of the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association (TTFA) served notice of termination to Senior Men’s National Team head coach Terry Fenwick. Additionally, the NC has mutually parted company with Senior Men’s National Team assistant coach Derek King and is finalising same with assistant coach Kelvin Jack.

Given the financial situation of the TTFA which threatens its ability to fund the coaches at the salary levels that were committed, the NC has met with Derek King and Kelvin Jack and have come to a mutually agreed position.

The NC wishes to thank Derek and Kelvin for their work, professionalism and sincere understanding. We wish them all the best in the future.

The TTFA will now prioritise its appointment of an interim head coach together with a coaching staff next week, ahead of the Gold Cup preliminary round which takes place in early July 2021.

A selection panel led by NC member Nicholas Gomez and comprising Anton Corneal, Anthony Sherwood and Richard Chinapoo will meet to finalise the selection of the interim head coach. The interim head coach together with the panel will then establish the supporting team.

  1. Gally and Hart are black listed. Angus is a school boys coach, Fenwick was a pro league coach. Lawerence was a never never coach. SKN and Guyana have Brazilian coaches, Puerto Rico has an American Coach and Bahamas a homy. HN is the most qualified coach in the world but he can only coach chickens. We can occupy space with a homy until we find a proper 2026 coach. Then the NC would be gone and we would be back to chaos and confusion.

  2. Anton Corneal’s credentials are impeccable so nobody’s challenging his selection.

All who not happy with Chinapoo and Sherwood, the time to speak up is NOW. Lehwe doh wait until deh pick de wrong man and then say “I know deh wouda do crap.”

Mr Editor, would you be good enough to give us a story setting out WHAT–not WHO–you think might have led the NC to select these two gennulmen? Thanks.

    • I will ask the coaching association more on that. But I agree. Corneal’s credentials are irrefutable. But I can’t see anything in the CV of Chinapoo or Sherwood that make them qualified to decide on the best football coach in the country at least. And from my knowledge, Sherwood has never coached at a competitive level or at least not with any success.
