NLCL 24: City FC crush SMS to top Group A; “Baby Hulk” nets again for Point

QPCC City FC stormed to the top of Group A yesterday with a 6-1 thumping of Soccer Made Simple (SMS) in 2023/24 NLCL U19 Community Cup action at the Hasely Crawford Stadium Training Field.

SMS, the defending two-time champions, endured an indifferent start to the current campaign but might have hoped to build on their weekend win over Blast FC.

At halftime, the score was 1-1 with Aadil Abdul-Hakeem Jr’s 20th minute opener for City quickly cancelled out by a Desean Plaza equaliser. However, the west Port of Spain roared after the interval with five unanswered goals—three of them in the last eight minutes of the game.

Micah Nelson and Kade Collier both got doubles while Seth Hadeed chipped in an item in the rout, which moved City a point clear of Athletic International Academy (AIA) on the standings.

In Group B, it was a case of the leaders flexing their muscles as doubles by Isaiah Jacob and Kylon Cayenne paced Point Fortin Youth FA to a 6-1 whipping of Moruga FC at the Marac Recreation Ground.

Point Fortin are now the only team in the 2023/24 competition with a 100 percent record. However, they are being followed closely by Central Soccer World, who defeated third place Gasparillo Youth 2-1 at the Balmain Recreation Ground.

Pleasantville Secondary forward Kelon Williams scored for the third straight match for Central while St Benedict’s College winger Ethan Trotman also got his third goal of the season.

Jacob leads all scorers in the Community Cup with six goals while AIA’s Theo Crovador and Caledonia AIA’s Keiron Hinds are joint top of the Group A chart with four goals each.
