Sam strikes for Jabloteh; but D/Force and Stars win

Eighteen-year-old San Juan North Secondary schoolboy Brent Sam got a goal on his first appearance for San Juan Jabloteh this season but it was not enough to save his team from a 2-1 Pro League loss to Defence Force at the Marvin Lee Stadium in Macoya yesterday.

The Army/Coast Guard combination struck first through attacking midfielder Josimar Belgrave in the 16th minute only for the lanky Sam to equalise in the 65th minute. However, Defence Force got the winner from an unlikely source as midfield hardman Sean Narcis grabbed a late winner in the 85th minute.

The result saw Jabloteh, the Toyota Classic champions, slip to seventh place in the nine-team table as their alarming league form continues. It was Jabloteh’s fourth successive League defeat.

In yesterday’s other Pro League affair, North East Stars eked out a 1-0 win over St Ann’s Rangers thanks to a seventh minute strike from playmaker Keron “Ballpest” Cummings at the same venue.

Stars and Rangers have two of the worst offensive scoring records in the local top flight although Stars’ stinginess on the defensive end has been much more useful to their ambitions this season.

Stars and Defence Force climbed to fourth and fifth respectively yesterday while Rangers remain rooted to the bottom of the standings.

In today’s Pro League action, current leaders Central FC face Point Fortin Civic from 5 pm at the Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva while second place DIRECTV W Connection, the current defending champions, take on Caledonia AIA from 7 pm at the same venue.
